Last week, police in Palm Beach County, Florida, retrieved a Ford Mustang from a canal with no one inside and no information on the driver’s condition.

This week, a similar scene unfolded in San Diego, California, as authorities were alerted to a Ford Mustang submerged in a canal.

Local rescue teams promptly responded, pulling the Mustang out of the water and checking for occupants. According to Carscoops, the car was empty at that time, and the owner casually walked up to the scene.

In an interview with officers from the San Diego Police Department, as reported by OnSceneTV, the owner of the Ford Mustang claimed to be unaware of how the car ended up in the water and could not explain how they knew the exact location of the vehicle.

The Ford Mustang in question appeared to have sustained no significant damage, aside from a large dent on the hood, likely a result of the driver’s escape. The vehicle had a disabled person’s license plate, and when police arrived, the passenger-side window was open.

Marks on the tires indicated that the Mustang had been driven on the sandy beach for some time before entering the water.

According to Carscoops, the saltwater from Mission Bay could accelerate corrosion on the car’s exterior. In this case, the insurance company may declare the Ford Mustang a total loss.
