A plethora of automotive and motorcycle brands showcased their electric vehicle (EV) models at the Vietnam Auto Expo 2024 (VMS 2024). Never before have we seen such a vast array of green vehicles, with some even taking center stage at the exhibition.

Electric Vehicles Take Over VMS 2024

At the heart of the exhibition halls, the presence of pure electric vehicles such as the Toyota FT-3e, MG Cyberster, and the BYD lineup showcased the dominant “green” trend of this year’s VMS.

Among them, the pure electric car brand BYD introduced two of its most anticipated models: the YangWang U8 and Denza N9, positioned at the very heart of their booth. The YangWang U8, a new energy SUV, boasts a robust and elegant design, symbolizing technological breakthroughs and all-terrain capabilities. Visitors were treated to a live demonstration of its impressive 360-degree rotation feature.

Another debutant, the Denza N9, is positioned in the luxury MPV segment, offering a sophisticated and superior driving experience. BYD’s booth also featured the recently launched affordable electric MPV, the BYD M6.

European brand Skoda kept up with the trend by showcasing its electric SUV, the Skoda Enyaq. This was the first time the model was introduced to Vietnamese consumers before its official launch in 2025.

Following tradition, Toyota presented at least one new and captivating concept model at the VMS. This year, the center stage of their booth was occupied by the electric concept car, Toyota FT-3e. It was one of the few concept vehicles showcased at this year’s exhibition.

Unveiled at the Japan Mobility Show 2023, the FT-3e represents Toyota’s vision of the future of electric vehicles and their strategy for development in this segment.

MG, similar to the previous year, introduced its most attractive electric products, including the MG4 and the limited-edition (only 100 units) electric supercar, MG Cyberster.

Electric motorcycles also took center stage at VMS 2024. Honda showcased two urban electric motorcycle models, the CUV e: and ICON e:. Both are designed for practicality and targeted towards students, the generation that will lead the charge against climate change and carbon neutrality challenges.

Yamaha, too, presented its unique green offerings with the Motoroid and Elove concept duo. These motorcycles can self-identify their owners, self-transform, self-drive, and self-balance without any throttle operation. These models not only served as displays but also showcased Yamaha’s vision and goals for a modern future with new energy technology and artificial intelligence.

Hybrid Vehicles Garner Significant Interest

In addition to electric vehicles, participating brands at VMS 2024 also showcased other types of green engines, such as hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles. This group of new energy vehicles attracted attention due to their practicality, accessibility, and minimal impact on usage habits.

Notable mentions include the popular affordable MPV, the Suzuki XL7, now equipped with hybrid engine technology. This model was launched in the Vietnamese market in late August 2024, with two versions priced from 599.9 to 607.9 million VND.

Toyota garnered significant interest at this year’s exhibition by officially launching the new generation of the “national” sedan, Toyota Camry, with hybrid engine technology. The car is offered in the Vietnamese market with three versions, including two hybrid and one gasoline engine variants. The new Camry features significant upgrades and changes while remaining accessible in terms of pricing.

Meanwhile, at Honda’s booth, the highlight was the Honda Civic facelift, a C-segment sedan. This was the first time the upgraded version of this model was introduced to the entire country. The Civic facelift at VMS 2024 was presented in two reference versions: the standard RS with a combustion engine and the RS e:HEV hybrid. The most significant difference in the 2024 Civic is the first-ever availability of a hybrid option in Vietnam. The Civic e:HEV RS combines a 2.0L gasoline engine with two electric motors, delivering a maximum output of 200 horsepower and 315 Nm of torque. It offers three driving modes (electric, hybrid, and gasoline) along with regenerative braking. Its average fuel consumption is an impressive 4.56 liters/100km for mixed usage.

“Green Revolution” at VMS 2024

With the theme “Technology Opens the Future Green,” Vietnam Motor Show 2024 demonstrated the commitment of brands to provide green and sustainable mobility solutions, underscoring the importance of technology in environmental protection.

In this spirit, the highlight of the exhibition was the display of a range of electrified vehicles and green technologies by manufacturers, reaffirming their pledge towards a sustainable future for the automotive and motorcycle industries.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Nakano Keita, Chairman of the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (VAMA), emphasized that this exhibition not only gathered renowned automobile and motorcycle brands but also testified to the transformation of this industry in Vietnam.

“With a strong commitment to sustainable development, this event emphasizes green energy solutions, emission reduction, and leading safety technologies. We believe that with the support of the Government and the efforts of enterprises, Vietnam will make significant strides in realizing the Net Zero target by 2050,” affirmed the VAMA Chairman.

Sharing her views on the exhibition, Ms. Le Thanh Hai, representative of the Vietnam Automobile Importers Association (VIVA), expressed optimism about the prospects of the imported car market in Vietnam.

Echoing this sentiment, Mr. Okutani Masahiro, representative of the Vietnam Motorcycle Manufacturers Association (VAMM), stated that the motorcycle industry in Vietnam is undergoing an important transition. The trend towards green and energy-saving solutions is gaining traction among consumers, and VMS 2024 offers an ideal platform for manufacturers to showcase their stance on this new wave.

As per the schedule, the Vietnam Auto-Motorcycle Show 2024 (VMS 2024) will take place from October 23, 2024, to October 27, 2024, at the Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center (SECC) in District 7, Ho Chi Minh City.
