The Wuling Bingo, a compact A-segment electric vehicle, is scheduled to be launched in Vietnam on the 2nd of November 2024. The car will be assembled locally and delivered to consumers starting in 2025.

Wuling Bingo will offer two versions with expected prices of VND 470 and 530 million, respectively. The vehicle competes in the A-segment against rivals such as the Hyundai i10 (VND 405 million), Kia Morning (VND 349 million), Toyota Wigo (VND 405 million), and VinFast VF 5 (VND 460 million).

With prices of VND 470 and 530 million, the Bingo may struggle to find its place in the market and could face similar challenges to the Wuling Hongguang Mini, which was introduced in Vietnam last year.

The Wuling Bingo has compact dimensions with a length of 3,950 mm, a width of 1,705 mm, a height of 1,580 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,560 mm. Its design seems to draw inspiration from the Mini Cooper, featuring 14-inch wheels, which are notably smaller than the 17-inch wheels on the VinFast VF 5.

Details about the features and equipment of the Vietnam-spec Wuling Bingo are yet to be revealed. In the Chinese market, the Bingo boasts a simple interior with a 7-inch instrument cluster, a 10.25-inch central infotainment screen, electrically adjustable driver’s seat, automatic climate control, push-button start, and electronic parking brake.

When it comes to safety, the Bingo falls short, offering only basic features such as ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, a rearview camera, parking sensors, and tire pressure monitoring.

In Vietnam, the Wuling Bingo will be available in two variants. One is powered by an electric motor that produces 67 horsepower and 150 Nm of torque, offering a top speed of 100 km/h and a range of up to 333 km on a single charge according to the CLTC standard.

The other variant also generates 67 horsepower but with 125 Nm of torque, achieving a higher top speed of 130 km/h and a range of 410 km on the CLTC standard. When converted to the more realistic WLTP standard, the ranges would be approximately 270 km and 330 km, respectively.

While the Wuling Bingo is advertised as having fast DC charging capabilities, Wuling currently lacks a charging network in Vietnam. As a result, buyers will have to rely on AC charging at home or use third-party charging stations, which can be expensive and scarce.

Despite the challenges, Wuling expects the Bingo to sell 120 to 150 units per month, triple the average monthly sales of the Kia Morning (less than 50 units/month). However, with its basic features, lack of charging infrastructure, and questionable pricing, the Bingo may struggle to gain traction and could face a similar fate to the Wuling Hongguang Mini.
