Building on the success of the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6, Hyundai has announced the upcoming launch of its newest all-electric SUV, the Ioniq 9, scheduled for November 2024.
Alongside this exciting announcement, the South Korean brand has also revealed a series of teaser images, giving us a glimpse of what’s to come.
The Hyundai Ioniq 9 is the production version of the SEVEN Concept, first introduced at the 2021 LA Auto Show. This SUV is set to rival the Kia EV9 in size and will sit above the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6 in Hyundai’s electric vehicle lineup.

While the teaser images don’t reveal the full design, it’s evident that the Ioniq 9 retains many styling cues from the SEVEN Concept. The front end features a striking “Parametric Pixels” LED light signature, similar to the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6. Additionally, the SUV sports a pixel-style positioning light running vertically on the front end.

The Ioniq 9’s side profile also echoes the concept, with a vertical D-pillar and bold, squared-off wheel arches. The SEVEN Concept boasted Rolls-Royce-style rear-opening doors, but this feature is unlikely to make it to the production model.

Although there are no teaser images of the rear end of this three-row electric SUV, the side profile shot hints at a T-shaped pixel LED light signature.
Hyundai draws inspiration from the Hanbok, traditional Korean clothing, for the diagonal lines cutting across the body of the vehicle. The spacious and airy interior, on the other hand, takes cues from luxury yachts.
Like its two predecessors, the Ioniq 9 will be based on the dedicated electric vehicle platform, E-GMP. While official details about the powertrain are scarce, Hyundai could utilize the same system as the Kia EV9, offering battery options of 76.1 kWh and 99.8 kWh, paired with various electric motor setups ranging from 215 horsepower to 576 horsepower.
