Geely surpassed a significant milestone in October, selling over 100,000 NEVs for the first time in a month. While this figure pales in comparison to BYD’s half-a-million mark, it signals Geely’s rapid emergence as a force to be reckoned with in the NEV market.
The company’s October NEV sales stood at 108,722, a 19% increase from the previous month and a more notable 83% jump year-on-year. Furthermore, cumulative NEV sales from January to October totaled 654,576, putting Geely on track to hit the 900,000 mark for the year.
Surprisingly, the biggest contributor to the total sales in October, with 63,492 units, was the Geely Galaxy line, which was only launched last year and includes both electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs).
Geely recently unveiled its new NordThor 2.0 PHEV system, also known as EM-i, which will be featured in the upcoming Galaxy Starship 7 and Galaxy L6 automobiles. This system boasts a world-leading 46.5% thermal efficiency rate for its ICE and an 11-in-1 electric drive system. NordThor 2.0 offers a combined range of 2,390 km and a fuel consumption rate of 2.67 l/100km.
In August this year, Geely launched the Galaxy E5, an electric SUV that introduced the company’s new short-tongue lithium iron phosphate battery pack, the Aegis. This model sold over 12,000 units in its first 20 days on the market.
Zeekr delivered 25,049 vehicles in October, and sales are expected to accelerate in the coming months with the recent launches of both the Mix and 7X. Currently, Zeekr solely offers all-electric vehicles.
Meanwhile, Lynk & Co sold 19,992 vehicles in October. Up until recently, the brand’s only NEV offering was the PHEV, which utilized the performance-oriented EM-P version of the NordThor powertrain.
Earlier this year, the brand launched its first all-electric sedan, the Z10. In October, it introduced its second all-electric model, the Z20, in Europe.
Geely also launched the Geome Xingyuan in September. As of October 27, over 11,500 units had been delivered, and by mid-October, reports indicated that orders had already surpassed 50,000.
