Toyota Unveils Two Concept Cars for SEMA: The Land Cruiser ROX and 4Runner TRD Surf

Both vehicles feature unique designs and will be showcased at the SEMA show in the US.

Starting with the Land Cruiser ROX, this is a convertible pickup truck based on the 2024 Land Cruiser SUV. The design team has poured their heart and soul into crafting a vehicle that offers an immersive outdoor experience, perfect for off-road adventures. As such, the car has no roof, a detail that also pays homage to the legendary Land Cruiser FJ40.

To transform the SUV into a pickup truck, the designers boldly removed the C and D pillars and the roof, replacing them with a special frame to ensure the vehicle’s rigidity despite the absence of a traditional structure. A detachable soft top has been placed over the truncated body, along with a transverse bar welded across the C pillars.

In addition to the structural changes, Toyota’s engineers have equipped this car with an off-road body kit, including new front and rear bumpers, a roll cage, a winch, and a spare tire carrier.

The Toyota 4Runner TRD Surf Concept, on the other hand, is a two-door, soft-top SUV inspired by the iconic 1980s Hilux Surf, famous in Japan for its rugged, outdoor style. It was designed by Motorsports Garage, based on the idea of the classic Hilux Surf from the 1980s.

To achieve the aesthetics of a beach tourer, the traditional roof and D-pillar have been removed, replaced by a detachable hardtop to accommodate surfboards, preserving the Surf’s legacy. A roll bar ensures the safety of rear passengers.

With the removal of the rear door for the second row, the front seats are designed to flip up, allowing access to the back seats. Additionally, the 4Runner is fitted with a sports body kit, including extended fender flares, a TRD front bumper, a ventilated hood, Turbo decals on the doors, and custom ocean-inspired paintwork. The interior features blue-themed seat covers, teal accents, and a waterproof wooden floor.

Both new models are powered by a 2.4-liter turbocharged engine, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and a four-wheel-drive system. Upgrades include larger exhaust pipes, a sports steering wheel, a customized front axle, and a long-travel suspension system.

The 2024 SEMA Show will open at the Las Vegas Convention Center on November 5.
