Mercedes, Moncler, and NIGO Collaborate on a “Work of Art” Based on the 1990s G-Class Cabriolet
Mercedes has recently unveiled a new “work of art,” a special edition of the G-Class to commemorate the 45th anniversary of this legendary SUV’s resounding success.
Mercedes, the fashion brand Moncler, and renowned designer NIGO have joined forces to create a unique concept based on the 1990s G-Class Cabriolet, named Project G-Class Past II Future.
The Project G-Class Past II Future concept features a bold design with a grey and olive green matte paint job and striking black and yellow accents. The most notable feature of this concept is its soft top, inspired by Moncler’s puffer jackets.
Additionally, the Project G-Class Past II Future includes a prominent yellow fuel tank and a “boom box” sound system mounted on the joints of the convertible top. It also features black steel wheels and a classically styled interior with fabric upholstery.
According to Carscoops, the commercial version of the special G-Class will take inspiration from this concept, retaining the green/grey exterior with black accents. It will feature black wheels, the distinctive “Past II Future” badge, and a unique spare tire cover.
While the interior changes are minimal, the vehicle will likely maintain a classic style and include the notation “One of 20,” indicating a limited production run of 20 units, with deliveries expected to commence in April 2025.
In terms of performance, customers can choose between two engine variants: the G450d and the G500. The G450d is powered by a 3.0-liter diesel engine that produces 362 horsepower and 750 Nm of torque, enabling the SUV to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 5.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 210 km/h.
On the other hand, the G500 is equipped with a 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder engine, delivering 443 horsepower and 560 Nm of torque. This variant can sprint from 0-100 km/h in just 5.4 seconds.
