Mazda executives stated that if there is customer demand, the company would develop a high-end, rear-wheel-drive version of the Mazda6, utilizing the same platform as the CX-90 SUV.

Previously, there were rumors that the next-generation Mazda6 would share a rear-wheel-drive platform with a range of SUVs from the CX-60 to the CX-90.

However, the Japanese automaker later denied these rumors, citing low sales figures in the sedan segment. For now, the company remains focused on SUVs due to their higher and more stable sales.

Although it may be a challenging endeavor, Mazda leaders have expressed their desire to see the Mazda6 return to a rear-wheel-drive platform. If consumer demand for sedans increases, there is a possibility that a rear-wheel-drive Mazda6 could become a reality.

Adopting a rear-wheel-drive platform would open up the possibility of offering a more powerful six-cylinder engine option for the Mazda6.
