The Vietnamese automotive market witnessed a boost in October 2024, with a surge in consumer demand and a 50% registration fee incentive from the government for domestically produced and assembled vehicles. However, some models in the C-segment SUV category experienced a decline in sales, notably the Honda CR-V and the Mitsubishi Outlander.

C-segment SUV sales table for Oct 2024 (units: vehicles)

Mazda CX-5: 2,008 units sold

October 2024 reinforced the undeniable appeal of the Mazda CX-5, as this model sold 2,008 units, an increase of 8.18%. With this result, the Mazda offering not only topped the C-segment SUV category but also made it to the top 10 best-selling vehicles in the overall market. In fact, the Mazda CX-5 was the second best-selling traditional gasoline and diesel-powered vehicle in Vietnam last month, second only to the Mitsubishi Xpander.

Mazda CX-5

The biggest strength of the Mazda CX-5 is undoubtedly its pricing, ranging from VND 749 million to VND 979 million for seven variants. Currently, it is one of the most affordable C-segment SUVs in Vietnam. Additionally, this model also benefits from the government’s 50% registration fee support.

Its attractive design, comfortable amenities, and comprehensive safety features further enhance its appeal among Vietnamese customers. The Mazda CX-5 currently offers two gasoline engine options with displacements of 2.0L and 2.5L, delivering 154 hp/200 Nm and 188 hp/252 Nm, respectively. The engines are paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission and either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.

Ford Territory: 1,173 units sold

During October, the Ford Territory climbed to second place in the C-segment SUV category, thanks to a 42.7% growth in sales to 1,173 units. This achievement is attributed to a 100% registration fee incentive offered by both the brand and the government, saving customers between VND 80 million and VND 92 million, depending on the variant. Ford is continuing this promotional program for the Territory throughout November 2024.

Ford Territory

The Ford Territory boasts a reasonable price range within the segment, from VND 799 million to VND 929 million for four variants. Additionally, it impresses customers with its robust exterior, modern design, spacious interior, and excellent features.

Under the hood, the Ford Territory is equipped with a 1.5L EcoBoost 4-cylinder gasoline engine that generates a maximum output of 160 hp and 248 Nm of torque. This engine is paired with a 7-speed automatic transmission.

Honda CR-V: 859 units sold

The strong performance of the Ford Territory pushed the Honda CR-V down to third place in the C-segment SUV category. Unlike the above-mentioned competitors, the Honda CR-V experienced a challenging month, with a 7.1% decline in sales to 859 units.

Honda CR-V

Since the beginning of September 2024, Honda has reduced the listed price of the CR-V’s G, L 2WD, and L AWD variants to between VND 1,029 billion and VND 1,250 billion. Additionally, these three variants also benefit from the government’s 50% reduction in registration fees. Despite its high price within the segment, the Honda CR-V continues to perform well in terms of sales.

Furthermore, the Honda CR-V is one of the few C-segment SUVs that offer a hybrid option. Specifically, the e:HEV RS version is equipped with a 2.0L 4-cylinder gasoline engine that produces 146 hp, combined with two electric motors delivering a total of 181 hp. Together, they generate a total output of 204 hp and 335 Nm of torque.

Meanwhile, the remaining three variants of the Honda CR-V are powered by a 1.5L 4-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine that delivers 188 hp and 240 Nm of torque, paired with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) and either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.

Hyundai Tucson: 558 units sold

The Hyundai Tucson maintained its fourth position in the C-segment SUV category, with 558 units sold in October, representing a 12.7% growth.

Hyundai Tucson

In October 2024, the Hyundai Tucson received an upgraded version in the Vietnamese market. It is now available in four variants, with prices ranging from VND 769 million to VND 979 million.

The upgraded Tucson features design adjustments and improved equipment. The exterior updates include a redesigned grille, LED daytime running lights, front and rear bumpers, and alloy wheels. Meanwhile, the interior boasts a new curved screen that combines a digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch central touchscreen infotainment system in the high-end model. The infotainment system supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. Additionally, the Tucson now features a new 3-spoke steering wheel with a dial-type gear selector.

Under the hood, the Hyundai Tucson continues to offer three engine options: the Smartstream 2.0l MPI gasoline engine, the Smartstream Diesel D2.0 engine, and the Smartstream 1.6L T-GDi turbocharged gasoline engine. These engines produce 156 hp/192 Nm, 186 hp/416 Nm, and 180 hp/265 Nm, respectively. They are paired with either a 6-speed automatic transmission, an 8-speed automatic transmission, or a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Kia Sportage: 448 units sold

The Kia Sportage also had a successful month, with sales reaching 448 units, a 10% increase. However, its ranking within the C-segment SUV category remains unchanged.

Kia Sportage

The Kia Sportage doesn’t have a significant advantage in terms of pricing or design. It is available in eight variants in the Vietnamese market, with prices ranging from VND 779 million to VND 999 million. Additionally, it also benefits from the government’s 50% registration fee incentive.

Under the hood, the Kia Sportage shares the same three engine options as the Hyundai Tucson, as both models are produced by the Hyundai Motor Group.

Mitsubishi Outlander: 92 units sold

Similar to the Honda CR-V, the Mitsubishi Outlander experienced a decline in sales during October. Its sales figures stood at just 92 units, a significant drop of 53.5%. As a result, the Mitsubishi Outlander remained at the bottom of the C-segment SUV category.

Mitsubishi Outlander

In November 2024, the Mitsubishi Outlander continues to offer promotional programs, including a VND 20 million fuel voucher and a VND 20 million 360-degree camera system. Additionally, it also benefits from the government’s 50% registration fee incentive.

The Mitsubishi Outlander is priced between VND 825 million and VND 950 million in Vietnam, which is not particularly competitive. Moreover, the lack of recent upgrades to its design and features has resulted in modest sales performance.

Under the hood, the Mitsubishi Outlander is equipped with a 2.0L MIVEC 4-cylinder gasoline engine that delivers 145 hp and 196 Nm of torque. It is paired with a CVT transmission.
