In a recent development, Hyundai Motor has appointed Jose Munoz as its new global CEO.

Mr. Munoz is currently the Global Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Hyundai and also serves as the President and CEO of Hyundai and Genesis in North America.

Effective January 1, 2025, Mr. Munoz will take over as global CEO from Chang Jae-hoon, who has been promoted to Vice Chairman of Hyundai Motor.

This marks the first time in Hyundai Motor’s history that a non-Korean national has been appointed to a senior leadership position.

The new Hyundai CEO, Mr. Jose Munoz, is an American of Spanish origin. He joined the Hyundai Group in 2019 as the CEO of Hyundai’s North American division. He is also a board member of the South Korean carmaker.

Previously, Mr. Munoz held the position of Chief Performance Officer and led operations in North America and China for Nissan. He also held several management positions at Toyota Motor Europe.

According to Hyundai Motor, the leadership change will strengthen the company’s global competitiveness and better prepare it for uncertainties in the business environment worldwide.

Mr. Munoz’s appointment as Hyundai CEO is expected to boost and expand the South Korean brand’s electric vehicle lineup in the future.
