In the United States, the Jeep Wrangler 4xe and Grand Cherokee 4xe are the top-selling models in the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) segment. However, according to Carscoops, there have been around 13 reported fires involving these two Jeep PHEV models recently. Notably, all the vehicles that caught fire were stationary or parked inside garages.

This serious issue has prompted Stellantis to issue a red alert, advising all Jeep owners to park their vehicles in isolated areas, away from structures and residential areas, until further updates are provided. Additionally, owners are instructed not to charge their vehicles and to use the Wrangler 4xe and Grand Cherokee 4xe solely as conventional internal combustion engine vehicles to mitigate the risk of fire.

This recall affects a total of 154,032 vehicles, including all Wrangler 4xe models produced between 2020 and 2024, and Grand Cherokee 4xe models from 2022 to 2024. However, only 5% of the recalled vehicles have been found to have defects.

The American automaker has not yet disclosed further details about the cause of these incidents but has assured that they will promptly address the issue. According to Carscoops, this recall extends beyond the US, impacting 14,038 vehicles in Canada, 673 in Mexico, and 25,502 in other global markets.
