According to Motor1, the BMW XM has been facing an uphill battle since it entered production in December 2022. This high-performance SUV has seen lackluster sales, a trend that continued into the third quarter of 2024.

In particular, BMW XM sales in North America during the July-September period totaled 307 units, a nearly 31% decline compared to the 443 vehicles sold in the same period last year.

In the third quarter, BMW sold 543 Z4 vehicles to North American customers, a 64% increase year-over-year. This means that the BMW XM, a performance SUV, is currently selling fewer units than the two-seat sports convertible, a segment that typically caters to a niche customer base.

Specialty site Motor1 reported that BMW passenger car sales in North America decreased by 5% in the third quarter. SUV sales dropped by 8.5%, and the MINI brand car sales plummeted by 33% compared to the previous year’s quarter.

The 3-Series, which recently received an update, saw a 13.7% decline in sales. According to Motor1, this is not a positive sign for BMW.

Overall, BMW’s total sales for the third quarter decreased by 2.1% year-over-year, amounting to a difference of approximately 5,740 vehicles.

Some models continue to perform well, such as the BMW 5-Series (up 44.7%), BMW 2-Series (up 25.6%), and BMW X4, which saw a sales growth of 41.8% compared to the third quarter of 2024.

On the other hand, all MINI-branded vehicles in North America witnessed a sales decline, with the MINI Countryman experiencing the most significant drop, falling by 16.4% compared to the same period last year.
