Huawei and JAC are set to embark on an exciting collaboration with their new project, Maextro. The first vehicle from this partnership, the Maextro S800, is set to make its debut on November 26 at the Huawei Mate brand launch event. This electric vehicle is already generating buzz with a teaser image revealing its stunning taillight design and additional details.
Richard Yu, President of Huawei’s Smart Car Solutions, has described the Maextro S800 in glowing terms, and the revealed taillight image certainly lives up to the hype. It creates a Milky Way-like effect with countless tiny stars, achieved through multiple light sources. Sitting atop this galaxy-inspired design is the ‘Maextro’ name in bold Latin lettering.
Yu also provided further insights into the vehicle’s dimensions, stating, “The Maextro S800 is huge, probably surpassing 99.99% of the cars on the road, reaching about 5.5 meters. Not only is it large in appearance, but it also offers a spacious interior.”
While initial estimates placed the length at around 5200 mm, Chinese media now predicts a more precise length of approximately 5480 mm, just shy of the 5.5-meter mark. This places the S800 in the D+ size category, comparable to the Maybach version of the S-Class and the Rolls-Royce Ghost, with the key difference being its all-electric powertrain.
Additional details about the Maextro S800 include the presence of four logos, two on each side, and front and back. The vehicle will feature a unique door handle design described as “star picking,” said to be a hollow structure. It will be available in two-tone and all-black color options, boasting 21-inch wheels and distinctive front headlight designs.
Initially, there were speculations about the S800’s debut at the Guangzhou Auto Show, but it turned out that private viewing sessions were held at the exhibition instead. The S800 is scheduled for launch in spring 2025, and a second Maextro model is expected to arrive by the end of the same year. This second model is likely to be the highly anticipated MPV that Huawei is developing with one of the two brands.
The S800 is expected to be based on the JAC X6 platform, as evident from the spy shots revealing a LIDAR sensor mounted on the roof. We can anticipate advanced ADAS and an impressive infotainment system courtesy of Huawei.
Assembly of the S800 will take place at JAC’s newly constructed factory. Leaked documents indicate a plan to produce 35,000 sedans annually, but the factory’s actual capacity is 200,000, suggesting that new models will soon join the Maextro brand’s lineup.
Maextro is the latest addition to the comprehensive HIMA (Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance) portfolio, where Huawei contributes not just with smart cockpit and intelligent driving solutions but also in design, production, sales, after-sales, and other stages of vehicle development without actually manufacturing the cars. Furthermore, Maextro is positioned as the highest-end brand among the four existing brands within HIMA. The S800 is expected to be priced at around 1 million yuan (USD 140,000).
HIMA currently offers vehicles from three brands: Aito (Huawei and Seres), Luxeed (Huawei and Chery), and Stelato (Huawei and BAIC).
