In a recent revelation, Mazda’s chairman hinted at the possibility of the upcoming CX-5 model being equipped with a self-developed hybrid engine. However, details about this powertrain remain under wraps for now.
Speculations suggest that the Madza CX-5 hybrid system could either be a mild-hybrid setup or a more powerful electric motor configuration. There are also talks about a potential plug-in hybrid (PHEV) option.
Mazda is expected to introduce this new hybrid technology across other models, such as the CX-60 and CX-80. This strategic move will help reduce costs and increase competitiveness compared to the current PHEV offerings, which have limited appeal among customers.
Based on the preliminary sketches, the new Mazda CX-5 will sport a bolder and more modern aesthetic. The traditional Mazda logo has been replaced with an eye-catching new wordmark, spelling out the brand name in capital letters.
The Mazda CX-5 is slated for its global debut in 2025 at the Japan Mobility Show, with deliveries expected to commence in 2026.
