Hyundai has recently announced a recall campaign for two of its models, the Tucson and Santa Cruz, in the US market. The reason for this recall is due to reports of the vehicles unintentionally shifting out of park and rolling while stationary.

According to the recall notice issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the affected vehicles may have incorrect wiring near the gear shift lever, which increases the risk of contact with the mechanical release of the shift lever lock. As a result, the transmission may shift out of the park position without the brake pedal being pressed.

A total of 42,465 Hyundai Tucson and Santa Cruz vehicles are being recalled in the US. The affected vehicles include 2025 model year Hyundai Tucsons manufactured between June 20, 2024, and November 13, 2024, and 2025 model year Hyundai Santa Cruz vehicles manufactured between July 22, 2024, and November 7, 2024.

Thousands of 2025 Hyundai Tucsons are affected by the recall due to reports of unintended rolling while stationary.

Hyundai became aware of this issue in late October 2024, after a 2025 Tucson in their fleet unexpectedly moved while stationary. On November 8, 2024, the company determined that a change in the wiring harness may have affected the shift lever lock of the Tucson and Santa Cruz. On November 13, 2024, Hyundai decided to initiate the recall.

While Hyundai states that owners of the affected Tucson and Santa Cruz vehicles can continue to drive their cars, they strongly advise drivers to use the parking brake when stationary as an additional safety measure.

The Hyundai Tucson is currently one of the best-selling vehicles in the US market. In the third quarter of this year, US consumers purchased a total of 53,801 Tucsons, a 2% increase compared to the same period last year. In fact, the Tucson outsold the combined sales of Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Dodge, and Chrysler in the same quarter.

The 2025 Hyundai Tucson was officially launched in the Vietnamese market in October this year, offering four different trim levels with prices ranging from 769 million to 979 million VND. The new model features upgrades in both design and equipment, most notably the new curved display that combines a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch infotainment system, a three-spoke steering wheel with a Morse code-inspired ‘H’ logo, and a rotary shift knob.

The 2025 Hyundai Tucson has been well-received in the Vietnamese market.

Additionally, the 2025 Tucson comes with power-adjustable front seats, heated and ventilated seats, a memory function for the driver’s seat, an eight-speaker Bose sound system, 64-color ambient lighting, multi-zone automatic climate control, a panoramic sunroof, electronic parking brake, automatic temporary hold, USB Type-C ports, and a customizable power tailgate with remote start capabilities.

Under the hood, the Vietnamese-spec 2025 Hyundai Tucson continues to offer three engine options: the Smartstream 2.0L MPI gasoline engine, the Smartstream Diesel D2.0 engine, and the Smartstream 1.6L T-GDi turbocharged gasoline engine.
