Late yesterday afternoon, November 27, 2024, social media was abuzz with images of Vietnam’s one-and-only Koenigsegg CCX supercar at a vehicle registration center in Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City, sporting the distinctive license plate number 15A-697.79.
Thus, after more than four years of being quietly imported into the country, mostly kept in Hai Phong, and only in the last two years transported to Ho Chi Minh City, the Koenigsegg CCX blockbuster has now received its “citizenship” with a memorable license plate from Hai Phong, continuing the owner’s passion for lucky numbers (39-79).
Despite the presence of eight hypercars and megacars in Vietnam, the Koenigsegg CCX is only the third vehicle to bear a fully taxed license plate, following the Bugatti Veyron owned by Dang Le Nguyen Vu and the Pagani Huayra of Minh “Nhua.”
The million-dollar Koenigsegg CCX, purchased from Al Ain Class Motors, is a familiar name as the dealership from which Minh “Nhua” and Hoang Kim Khanh acquired their Pagani Huayra and McLaren Senna, respectively. Additionally, Mr. Khanh’s Porsche 918 Spyder also originated from this dealership.
An intriguing feature of the Koenigsegg line is its scissor-style doors that slide forward instead of lifting vertically, as seen on the Lamborghini Murcielago and Aventador. Another surprising detail is that most Koenigsegg models, including the CCX, are hybrids of Coupe and convertible designs.
The CCX’s roof is entirely removable by hand and stows in front of the luggage compartment. Equally laborious is the process of tucking the roof into the storage space. The Hai Phong businessman’s supercar boasts a red exterior, carbon fiber accents, and silver wheels with carbon fiber yellow-gold rims.
With only 30 CCX models ever produced globally, and a few of them no longer intact, the arrival of a Koenigsegg CCX in Vietnam came as a big surprise. The car was discreetly imported, even before the Koenigsegg Regera owned by Mr. Hoang Kim Khanh was brought into Cambodia three years ago.
The newly licensed Koenigsegg CCX is owned by a businessman from Hai Phong. It is powered by a 4.7-liter V8 supercharged engine, producing a maximum output of 800 horsepower.
The engine is paired with a 6-speed manual transmission and rear-wheel drive, enabling the Koenigsegg CCX to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in under 3 seconds and reach a top speed of 402 km/h.
