The Mercedes-Benz 190 SL: A Rare Classic in the Collection of the Owner of Trung Nguyên Coffee
A well-known car enthusiast in Vietnam, Đặng Lê Nguyên Vũ, has an extensive collection of supercars and luxury vehicles from brands such as Ferrari, Aston Martin, and Lamborghini. Among them, he has a particular fondness for sports cars from Mercedes-Benz.
Recently, the renowned businessman paid a visit to a familiar car dealership in Ho Chi Minh City, driving a Mercedes-Benz 190 SL that is over 60 years old. It is known that there are only three such cars in Vietnam, two of which are owned by Mr. Đặng Lê Nguyên Vũ.
Mr. Vũ’s Mercedes-Benz 190 SL sports a sleek silver exterior with chrome accents, exuding elegance. On both doors, the black “UN” decal can be found, a signature touch of the coffee industry tycoon’s vehicles.
This classic car features a green convertible top that can be manually opened or folded with ease. Additionally, it offers the option of a removable hardtop.
The interior of the car retains its luxury and sophistication, highlighted by the chrome-plated mechanical clock and classic two-spoke steering wheel. Modifications have been made to accommodate the owner’s needs, including the addition of a cup holder and an ashtray. Remarkably, after more than 60 years, most of the car’s components remain original, never having been replaced or repaired.
Under the hood, the 190 SL is powered by a 1.9-liter inline-four engine with DOHC, producing 104 horsepower and 142 Nm of torque, paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission. This setup enables the car to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 13 seconds, reaching a top speed of 172 km/h.
When it was first introduced, the Mercedes-Benz 190 SL was priced at approximately $3,998 (97 million VND). Today, over 60 years later, its value has increased to around $200,000 (4.8 billion VND).
