BYD Shark 6, a Hybrid Pickup Truck, Makes Its Debut in Thailand
The BYD Shark 6 is the company’s first-ever pickup truck, built on BYD’s DMO platform – a super hybrid off-road platform.
With dimensions of 5,457 mm in length, 1,971 mm in width, and 1,925 mm in height, the Shark 6 is slightly larger than the Toyota Hilux, with a wheelbase that’s 175 mm longer.
The BYD Shark 6 boasts a design reminiscent of the Ford F-150 Lightning and Ford Ranger. Its front end features a bold LED headlight design with a large grille and a prominent BYD logo in the center.
The sides of the truck have a muscular look with wheel arches, large mirrors, and wide door sills. The rear of the vehicle is simpler in design, featuring taillights with a central LED strip. A black stripe on the C-pillar, connecting the side windows, adds a touch of personality and sportiness to the truck’s profile.
Inside, the BYD Shark 6 impresses with a massive 15.6-inch central touchscreen that can rotate vertically, similar to other BYD models. The cabin also features a flat-bottom steering wheel, a central control cluster with a gear lever, large handles and control buttons, and two wireless phone charging pads. Orange accents can be found throughout the interior.
Under the hood, the BYD Shark 6 in Thailand is powered by a hybrid system combining a 1.5L gasoline engine with two electric motors, delivering an impressive 430 horsepower and 650 Nm of torque.
The truck is equipped with BYD’s Lithium phosphate Blade batteries, offering an all-electric range of about 100 km on a single charge. With a full tank of fuel and a fully charged battery, the Shark 6 can travel up to 840 km.
While the truck was unveiled at the Thailand International Motor Expo this year, BYD has not yet announced the official launch date or pricing for the Thai market. In Cambodia, the BYD Shark 6 is priced at $56,700 (approximately 1.43 billion VND).
Given BYD’s recent efforts to expand into the Vietnamese market, there is a high possibility that the BYD Shark 6 could make its way to Vietnam in the future.
