According to Carscoops, Kia has confirmed that the Tasman pickup truck will make its global debut at the Jeddah International Auto Show in Saudi Arabia on October 29.

The South Korean automaker also released a video, revealing additional images of the mid-size pickup ahead of its launch.

Kia’s first-ever pickup truck features a distinctive design characterized by sharp lines, a vertical grille, prominent fender flares, and vertical LED taillights. The version featured in the promotional video showcases a crew cab configuration, a standard-sized bed, and a relatively high ground clearance.

Kia asserts that the Tasman addresses the “common shortcomings found in existing pickup truck designs,” without specifying exactly what those shortcomings are.

Based on earlier spy videos, the Kia Tasman is likely to offer a tech-laden cabin, a panoramic sunroof, heated seats, and aluminum accents.

Kia states that the Tasman will boast “impressive off-road capabilities,” built on a body-on-frame platform similar to the Kia Mohave, rather than a unibody construction like the Kia Telluride.

The brand’s inaugural pickup will be powered by a diesel engine, possibly the CRDi 2.2L 4-cylinder unit producing 199 horsepower and 441 Nm of torque, similar to the Hyundai Santa Fe and Kia Sorento.

There has been speculation about a possible turbodiesel V6 engine option with a 3.0L displacement, but Kia has not confirmed this.

The Kia Tasman will be sold in Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, Africa, the Middle East, and select Southeast Asian countries. Tax regulations are a significant factor preventing the Tasman from entering the US market, unless Kia decides to assemble the pickup locally.

The Kia Tasman will face competition from established mid-size pickup trucks, including the Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger, Mitsubishi Triton, Isuzu D-Max, Mazda BT-50, and the Volkswagen Amarok.
