November is a pivotal month for automakers, with year-end targets looming and the festive season in full swing. For Hyundai, November 2024 marked a formidable performance as the South Korean automaker announced its best-ever sales in the United States, delivering a total of 76,008 vehicles.

This figure represents an 8% increase compared to the same period last year, partly driven by the growing popularity of its electric models in the American market.

Among the standout performers was the Ioniq 5, selling 4,989 units in November, double the sales from the previous year. This was the electric car’s best-selling month in the United States since its launch, even with the recent announcement of the early arrival of the 2025 model at dealerships.

The hybrid and plug-in hybrid models also impressed, including the Santa Fe HEV, Tucson HEV, and Tucson PHEV, all of which achieved their highest November sales to date. Hyundai’s strategy of offering electrification options on its most popular models is paying off.

Not all the sweet spots in these sales figures belong to electric vehicles, though. The biggest surprise came from an unexpected name: the Hyundai Sonata. Its segment is considered a stagnant market, with modest sales increases, but the Sonata defied this trend with a 200% surge compared to the same period last year. A total of 6,971 units sold last month contributed to a 46% increase in year-to-date sales.

Meanwhile, the Palisade maintained its growth trajectory, recording a solid 33% year-to-date sales increase compared to 2023. In contrast, the Santa Fe SUV and Santa Cruz pickup truck continue to struggle, with year-to-date sales down 12% and 11%, respectively.

Looking at the bigger picture, Hyundai’s top three best-selling models in the US market for 2024 remain the Tucson (185,954 units), Elantra (125,113 units), and Santa Fe (105,701 units).

Randy Parker, CEO of Hyundai Motor America, attributed this record-breaking November to the growing success of their electric models, with a 77% year-to-date increase in electric vehicle sales and a 104% surge in hybrid sales.

Parker’s optimism extends into 2025, with the upcoming launch of the American-made Ioniq 9, a three-row SUV EV with a massive 110.3 kWh battery, expected to hit the market next year.
