The McLaren 765LT has a starting price of almost $400,000 in the US, and with options, this figure can soar to over half a million dollars. Despite the value and engineering that goes into this British supercar, it is currently the subject of a recall in the US, with 163 cars included in this campaign.

More notably, this is not the first time a McLaren supercar has been recalled. Previously, numerous versions of the British marque have been subject to recalls in the US, as well as in several other countries, including the limited-edition McLaren Senna.

Yet Another McLaren Supercar Recalled: This Time, It’s the Exclusive 765LT

Regarding the 765LT, McLaren has revealed that the supercar’s rear window, made from lightweight polycarbonate, may detach from its frame due to adhesion failure. The automaker believes that this issue may arise when the panel experiences aerodynamic loads higher than its design tolerance, especially when the 765LT is driven at high speeds with the side windows open. It is also possible that the bonding process used in manufacturing did not comply with McLaren’s standards.

The recall affects 765LT models produced from August 3, 2020, to May 19, 2021. The 765LT Spider is excluded as it does not feature these polycarbonate panels, and the recall also does not affect 765LT Coupe models equipped with the MSO carbon fiber roof scoop. Owners of the affected vehicles may notice a rattling noise from the polycarbonate panel when the adhesion starts to fail.

McLaren became aware of a potential issue after receiving several warranty claims regarding the rear window detaching from its frame. The company has also revealed that they are aware of instances where the panel detached completely.

Both dealers and owners were notified about the recall earlier this week. Dealers are required to install dedicated fasteners at each corner of the polycarbonate panel to secure it in place. In the meantime, McLaren has advised drivers not to exceed 96 MPH (155 km/h) when the windows are open and also to refrain from driving on race tracks. For those who wish to do so before the fix is ready, McLaren will apply additional adhesive to the edge of the frame as a temporary measure.

In Vietnam, there are approximately four McLaren 765LT coupes.
