Car Awards 2024: VinFast Electric Vehicles Dominate the Vietnamese Automotive Scene

The Car Awards 2024, an event honoring outstanding automobiles in Vietnam, concluded on December 7th with a remarkable victory for the electric vehicle brand, VinFast.

Not only did the Vietnamese automaker take home the top award of “Car of the Year” with its compact electric vehicle, the VF 3, but it also solidified its market leadership with the VF 7 winning the highest accolade in the C-segment crossover category.

VinFast VF 3: From “National Car” to “Car of the Year 2024”

According to the Car Awards 2024 jury, VinFast’s minicar emerged victorious with an overwhelming score of 33 points, surpassing its closest contenders, the Hyundai Santa Fe (23 points) and Mitsubishi Xforce (21 points). In the history of Car Awards, this is the first time that the “Car of the Year” recognition has received such a strong consensus from readers, users, and industry experts alike.

Objectively speaking, the VF 3’s accolade as the “Car of the Year” was a predictable outcome. This model not only meets the mobility needs of Vietnamese users but has also become a fashionable and unique choice for even the most discerning drivers.

The youngest member of the VinFast family, the VF 3, made its commercial debut at the CES exhibition in the US earlier in 2024 and went on sale in May. During its launch, the model received an astonishing 27,649 orders within just 66 hours of opening – translating to one order placed every eight seconds. All these orders were non-refundable and non-transferable, setting a record unprecedented in the automotive market.

Beyond its record-breaking order numbers, the VinFast VF 3 quickly became a topic of widespread interest among users for an extended period. Vehicle modification contests, shared driving experiences, and offline events featuring long-distance journeys of up to 4,000 km with the “baby three” created a wave never seen before in the Vietnamese automotive market.

Commenting on the VF 3’s triumph, a representative from Autodaily affirmed that the result was well-deserved for a model that had taken the Vietnamese market by storm.

Reviewer Vinh Xô shared a similar sentiment, stating that the award rightfully belonged to the VF 3 as it had set a new trend for affordable small electric vehicles, with prices starting at just 240 million VND for the battery leasing version. “VF 3s are everywhere in Hanoi now,” he posted on his personal page with over 75,000 followers.

VinFast VF 7: A Breakthrough Vehicle with a More Exciting Driving Experience than Gasoline Cars

In addition to the accolades for the VF 3, the highly anticipated VinFast VF 7 electric vehicle also made a strong impression by winning the top award in the C-segment crossover category at the Car Awards 2024. This electric SUV dominated its competitors with a remarkable score of 312.85 points, outpacing the Hyundai Tucson, which scored 300.6 points. Earlier in October, the VF 7 had also clinched the “Trend-leading Car” and “Design Breakthrough in Modern Automobiles” awards at the Better Choice Awards 2024.

The Facebook channel Dqmtrieu, with over 51,000 followers, asserted that this outcome was expected. “A well-deserved victory,” the channel shared.

Since its launch, the VF 7 has garnered positive reviews from both industry experts and users for its impressive design. While the exterior boasts sporty and dynamic lines, the cabin embraces minimalism, focusing on the experience of both the driver and passengers.

Notably, according to the Car Awards 2024 jury, the VF 7 delivers a more exciting driving experience than its gasoline-powered counterparts in the same segment. VinFast has equipped the VF 7 with a powerful 349-horsepower engine, delivering a maximum torque of 500 Nm. In terms of performance, the VF 7 is the most potent model in the C-SUV segment, even rivaling sports cars priced at 3-4 billion VND.

Furthermore, the jury highly regarded the VF 7 for its superior safety features, incorporating advanced ADAS technologies.

Industry experts believe that VinFast’s achievements with the VF 3 and VF 7 at the Car Awards 2024 signify more than just recognition for an electric vehicle brand. They indicate a shift in consumer behavior and preferences in the Vietnamese automotive market. This shift is particularly significant as VinFast recently became the top-selling automotive brand in Vietnam, with cumulative sales of over 51,000 vehicles as of October 2024.
