The central coastal city of Da Nang is home to a small collection of supercars, with no more than six of these exotic vehicles known to be in the area. Owners tend to keep their prized possessions garaged, but a rare sighting occurred recently when two of these stunning machines, a Ferrari 488 GTB and a McLaren 720S Spider, were spotted parked together along the city’s seaside road.
The Ferrari 488 GTB, bearing the distinctive license plate 43A-555.55, had not been seen on the streets for quite some time. This outing was made even more special by the presence of the McLaren 720S Spider, a convertible supercar with the license plate 51K-956.99, which had recently arrived in Da Nang from Ho Chi Minh City.
The McLaren 720S Spider, finished in a sleek Onyx Black paint job, is one of only two such cars in Vietnam, distinguishable by their differently coded paintwork. This particular model, however, can be identified by its orange brake calipers and matching wheel rims as the only one in the country that was imported through unofficial channels.
Previously offered for sale at a price of nearly VND 19 billion, this McLaren 720S Spider is the high-performance version, featuring numerous exterior and interior carbon fiber accents. The interior is adorned with black leather upholstery, complemented by orange stitching and safety belts, creating a stylish and cohesive look.
One of the most notable differences between the McLaren 720S Spider and its coupe counterpart is the retractable hardtop. Crafted from lightweight carbon fiber, the roof can be lowered or raised in just 11 seconds while the car is in motion, provided the speed does not exceed 50 km/h as per McLaren’s guidelines.
Under the hood, the McLaren 720S Spider boasts a potent twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine that delivers an impressive 710 horsepower and 770 Nm of torque. Mated to a 7-speed automatic transmission, this supercar can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in a breathtaking 2.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 341 km/h. However, with the roof down, the car’s maximum velocity is slightly reduced to 325 km/h.
The Ferrari 488 GTB, on the other hand, is equipped with a 3.9-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine that generates a maximum output of 661 horsepower at 8,000 rpm and 760 Nm of torque at 3,000 rpm. Combined with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, this Italian stallion can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in a mere 3 seconds and reach a top speed of 330 km/h.
