After a year-long hiatus, the Vietnam Motor Show 2024 (VMS 2024) is back, kicking off on October 23 at the Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center (SECC) in District 7, Ho Chi Minh City, and opening its doors to visitors from 4:30 pm on the same day.

With the theme “Technology Opens the Green Future”, VMS 2024 gathers the largest number of green vehicle models to date.

Almost all automotive and motorcycle brands showcase their electric and hybrid models at the exhibition, with a few even taking center stage as the vedette of their respective booths.

A Flood of Green Vehicles

The appearance of pure electric or hybrid vehicles such as the Toyota FT-3e, Honda Civic e:HEV RS, Subaru Crosstrek e-Boxer Hybrid, and MG Cyberster in the central area of the booths underscores the dominant “green” trend at this year’s VMS.

BYD, a pure electric car brand, chooses the YangWang U8 and Denza N9 for the most prominent spots in its booth.

Skoda displays the electric SUV Skoda Enyaq, while the MG4 EV also makes an appearance at the SAIC-owned brand’s exhibition area.

Suzuki has yet to introduce the Swift electric vehicle, so its booth at VMS 2024 only features the XL7 Hybrid.

Honda also introduces two electric motorcycles, the CUV e: and ICON e:, on stage. Yamaha unveils its electric motorcycle and concept models.

Green vehicles, therefore, abound at VMS 2024. Visitors can hardly take a few steps without encountering an electric or hybrid vehicle.

SUVs Dominate

Alongside the “green” trend, VMS 2024 also witnesses a significant presence of SUVs.

There aren’t many low-slung cars at this year’s event. Skoda showcases the Octavia and Superb, sedans expected to go on sale in Vietnam soon.

Toyota attracts attention with the new Camry, including three versions, two of which are hybrids. The best-selling sedan, the Toyota Vios, is notably absent from the exhibition.

Honda’s sedan lineup is almost complete at VMS 2024, including the new Civic, Honda City, and the Honda Civic Type R – the brand’s vedette at VMS 2022.

In addition to the pure electric roadster Cyberster, MG also displays two sedans currently sold in Vietnam, the MG5 and MG7. Mitsubishi brings the Attrage with a logo commemorating the brand’s 30-year journey in Vietnam.

The rest of the exhibition consists of SUVs. The new Isuzu D-Max makes its debut, and the new Mitsubishi Triton also takes center stage. The two Japanese brands also showcase familiar SUV models such as the Isuzu mu-X, Mitsubishi Xpander, and Mitsubishi Xforce.

Skoda’s Kodiaq is the vedette, accompanied by the Karoq, currently sold in Vietnam, and the Kushaq, a B-segment SUV confirmed to be the first locally assembled product from the Quang Ninh factory.

Subaru brings not only the new Crosstrek but also the Forester and Outback, along with the STI Package Edition of the BRZ and WRX sports cars.

MG showcases familiar SUV models in Vietnam, such as the ZS, HS, and RX5, along with the new MG D90 and the mid-size MPV MG G50.

GAC introduces the new M6 Pro MPV, displayed alongside the GAC GS8 and GAC M8, already available in Vietnam.

BYD’s current lineup, including the Dolphin, Atto 3, M6, Seal, and Han, is present, in addition to the previously mentioned YangWang U8 and Denza N9.

Motorcycles Take Center Stage Alongside Cars

For the first time, a VMS exhibition features multiple motorcycle brands, from popular motorcycle manufacturers to big-block motorcycle brands. This is also why VMS 2024 is named the Vietnam Auto and Motorcycle Show instead of just the Auto Show as in previous years.

This year, four out of five motorcycle brands belonging to the Vietnam Motorcycle Manufacturers Association (VAMM) are present: Honda, Yamaha, SYM, and Suzuki.

While the three fellow Japanese brands have separate booths with a large number of vehicles on display, Suzuki only brings the V-Strom 250SX adventure bike, placed alongside commercial and passenger cars.

Yamaha showcases a wide range of products at VMS this year. In addition to the two concept and electric motorcycle models, Yamaha Neo, the brand introduces the new MAXi line, including the TMAX, NMAX, XMAX 300, NVX, and LEXi 155 VVA ABS.

SYM brings a range of familiar models in Vietnam, such as the Tuscany 150, Priti 125 and 50, Shark 50, and Elegant 50. The Taiwanese brand also introduces new models, including the Wolf Legend 125, Wolf 125, DRGBT158, MMBCU158, VF185, KRNBT 125, and 4MICA 150.

Honda showcases the big-block motorcycle CBR1000RR-R Fireblade in the central area of its booth. In the two-wheeler area, Honda continues to divide its space into two separate sections: one for popular numbered bikes and scooters and the other for big-block motorcycles.

Another area dedicated to big-block motorcycles features brands such as Harley-Davidson, KTM, Triumph, and Husqvarna. UM Motorcycles also makes its debut at VMS 2024.

Overall, the presence of motorcycle and big-block motorcycle brands is considered one of the notable highlights of VMS 2024, especially in the absence of luxury car brands.

The moderate number of participating brands allows for more spacious booths, benefiting both the exhibitors in terms of product arrangement and visitors in terms of comfort while exploring the exhibition.

This year, the participating cars have a price range that is not too high, mostly below VND 1 billion, including gasoline, hybrid, and pure electric vehicles. This is seen as an opportunity for brands to reach a wider audience and potentially boost sales in the remaining months of 2024.

VMS 2024 is now open to the public from 9 am to 9 pm on October 24-27.

Visitors can purchase tickets online through the VMS 2024 website or directly at the ticket counters for VND 30,000 per person.
