Chery Demonstrates the Safety of the Sterra ES with a Three-Car Crash Test

Chinese automobiles were not highly regarded for their quality and safety in the past. However, in recent years, the country’s automotive industry has made significant strides. Today, Chinese vehicles are favored by consumers not only for their modern design and technology but also for their durability and safety, rivaling American and Japanese brands.

Chery – a renowned automotive group in China – recently conducted an independent crash test for its new brand, the 2025 Exeed Sterra ES. The test, carried out in Tianjin with support from the China Automotive Technology and Research Center (CATARC), was witnessed by the country’s media.

In this test, a red Sterra ES was struck on both sides by two other vehicles. One vehicle hit the front right corner at a 30-degree angle, while the other collided head-on with the passenger compartment at a 180-degree angle. Despite the challenging impact, footage and images revealed that the Exeed Sterra ES maintained a high level of protection for its occupants.

Although subjected to forces of up to 35 tons, the Exeed Sterra ES appeared to retain its structural integrity, safeguarding the dummies inside. Chery reported that the pillars withstood the impact, all seven airbags deployed as expected, and the doors automatically unlocked. The emergency call function was also activated, adding an extra layer of safety. Importantly, there were no signs of leakage, smoke, or fire from the battery, while the high-voltage system shut down automatically, as it should in the event of a collision.

Overall, the independent test demonstrated that the Exeed Sterra ES offers good safety protection in severe collision scenarios. However, according to Carscoops, an objective and accurate assessment from reputable testing organizations such as EuroNCAP or IIHS is necessary to confirm the quality of this vehicle.

The Exeed Sterra ES is a pure electric sedan that was first introduced in 2023, sharing a platform with the Huawei Luxeed S7. It offers rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations, with a range of up to 905 km on a single charge, thanks to its 97.7 kWh battery. The model has recently been upgraded with a reinforced frame and body, along with additional safety equipment.
