According to Carscoops, a brazen gang of thieves made off with a haul of brand new vehicles worth 2 million AUD (approximately 1.3 million USD) from a holding yard at a port in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, last week. Among the stolen vehicles were 20 Honda Civic Type Rs.
The theft took place between 3 pm on October 20 and 6:30 am the following morning. Victoria State Police reported that two men and two women breached the security of the holding yard and made off with a total of 45 unregistered new cars.
The thieves had a diverse taste in cars, as they stole from various makes and models. According to Carscoops, this was one of the most audacious and shocking car thefts Melbourne has seen in recent years.
It is believed that the group broke into the compound and used one of the stolen Mercedes-Benz Sprinters to ram through security barriers. How they managed to start the vehicles remains a mystery to the police.
