While Wey may be a relatively unknown automotive brand to Vietnamese consumers, it is a subsidiary of the well-known Chinese automaker, Great Wall Motor (GWM). GWM has already established its presence in the Vietnamese market with its Haval brand, so it comes as no surprise that they may introduce the Wey brand to the country in the future.
In recent months, a GWM dealer in Vietnam has been consistently posting information about the Wey 80, a large SUV, on their official fanpage, hinting at its potential launch in the country. Unfortunately, specific details about the vehicle’s availability in Vietnam remain undisclosed.

The Wey 80, planned to be assembled in Malaysia, boasts impressive dimensions with a length of 5,045 mm, a width of 1,960 mm, a height of 1,900 mm, and a wheelbase of 3,085 mm. With these specifications, it will compete directly with the Kia Carnival, Volkswagen Viloran, and GAC M8 in the large MPV segment.
Unlike the traditional minivan design of the Volkswagen Viloran, the Wey 80 adopts a design similar to that of the Toyota Alphard and GAC M8. This is evident in its front end, featuring a large grille with vertical chrome slats that create a waterfall effect. Just below the grille sits a rather wide central air intake.

Connected to the grille is a set of sleek headlights with integrated LED daytime running lights. The front corners also feature vertical air intakes adorned with chrome trim.
Moving to the sides, the Wey 80 features electrically adjustable sliding doors, similar to its competitors in the large MPV segment. Prominent character lines, mirrors on the doors, and faux air vents behind the front wheel arches add to its aesthetic appeal. The side windows are designed to be spacious, providing ample visibility for passengers. Additionally, the side pillars are painted black to create a floating roof effect. The vehicle also sports elegant 18-inch multi-spoke chrome alloy wheels.

The interior of the Wey 80 offers a spacious 7-seat layout across three rows. The second row features two individual business-class seats with fold-out tables integrated into the back of the front seats. Additionally, the front seats are designed with weightlessness in mind, and both the second and third rows can slide forward and backward. The maximum legroom for passengers in the middle row is an impressive 1,166 mm.

Other notable features of this large MPV include a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a matching 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 3-spoke steering wheel with integrated controls, a 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system with a power output of 1,600 watts, a 12.5-liter refrigerator with an independent cooling system capable of adjusting temperatures from 0 to 50 degrees, and more.

Under the hood, the Wey 80 is powered by a plug-in hybrid system named Hi4, consisting of a 1.5L turbocharged 4-cylinder gasoline engine and two electric motors. The gasoline engine produces a maximum output of 154 horsepower, while the front and rear electric motors deliver 174 horsepower and 181 horsepower, respectively. Combined, the system generates an impressive 480 horsepower and 762 Nm of torque. With a 37.96 kWh lithium-ternary battery pack, the vehicle can travel up to 140 kilometers on electric power alone without relying on the gasoline engine.
