In a recent announcement, Audi confirmed that it will be closing its Brussels factory on February 28, 2025, potentially resulting in job losses for approximately 3,000 employees and a temporary halt in production for iconic electric vehicles, including the Q8 e-tron.
The Audi Brussels factory, established after World War II, has a long history of manufacturing Volkswagen Group vehicles since 1949, including the Beetle, Passat, Polo, and Audi A3.
The plant has also been the primary production site for the Q8 e-tron since 2011, making the decision to close the Brussels factory a concerning development for the future of Audi’s flagship and iconic electric vehicle.
The closure is partly attributed to the poor sales performance of the Q8 e-tron in international markets. According to Audi reports, the SUV’s sales witnessed a significant decline in 2023 due to decreasing demand for large electric vehicles, particularly in China.
However, the Q8 e-tron has been a strong performer in Germany. As of the end of October, Audi sold nearly 4,200 units of the Q8 e-tron in the country, making it the second-best-selling model for Audi Germany after the Q4 e-tron.
While Audi has not officially announced the fate of the Q8 e-tron, it is certain that its production will face a temporary disruption after February 28.
