During a recent intimate gathering with the media on December 20, 2024, representatives from Supreme Auto, the official distributor of Ferrari in Vietnam, openly shared insights into their 2024 business performance and plans for 2025.
As the evening unfolded, an intriguing question about the potential arrival of the Ferrari F80 in Vietnam captured everyone’s attention.
The Supreme Auto representative shared an interesting insight, revealing that Ferrari customers are categorized into four tiers, and surprisingly, the first two Vietnamese customers have only reached the VIP level. This level grants them priority access to purchase special edition vehicles but not the highly-valued supercars like the F80, which is reserved for the highest tier.
Customers will gradually progress through these tiers based on a point system, with a comprehensive ranking determined by various criteria within each category. These criteria include purchasing a new car, participating in events, owning classic cars, taking part in racing programs, and restoring vintage vehicles. For instance, customers earn a certain number of points for each purchase and can accrue additional points for supplementary expenses, such as Tailor Made or Atelier builds.
In essence, reaching the Top 1 tier significantly enhances the likelihood of acquiring the F80, while the VIP tier does not offer the same privilege. This process underscores the meticulous selection criteria employed by Ferrari when selling limited-edition vehicles, going beyond mere financial transactions and focusing on identifying the most deserving owners.
Consequently, even if one of the two VIP customers in Vietnam desired to purchase the Ferrari F80 from the official distributor, it would be nearly impossible, especially considering the starting price of $3.9 million. As a result, no limited-edition Ferrari vehicles have been introduced in Vietnam from the outset.
The Ferrari F80 is equipped with the F163CF engine, a V6 120-degree motor related to the powerplant found in both the 296 GTB and the 499P Le Mans winner. However, while the 296’s internal combustion engine generates 654 horsepower, the F80’s lighter ICE produces an impressive 888 horsepower and a torque boost from 740 Nm to 850 Nm. Additionally, the F80 adopts a three-electric-motor setup similar to the SF90.
Two motors at the front provide 282 horsepower to the front wheels and enable torque vectoring, and Ferrari claims a weight reduction of 61.5 kg compared to the SF 90. A third motor transmits 80 horsepower to the rear wheels and can generate up to 94 horsepower by harvesting braking energy.
The addition of hybrid power boosts the F80’s total output to 1,184 horsepower, a significant increase from the 296’s 819 horsepower. This transformation makes the F80 Ferrari’s first four-wheel-drive supercar. However, despite the abundance of electric power, the F80 does not offer an electric-only driving mode.
