As the year draws to a close, the Vietnamese automotive market welcomes a host of new entrants, particularly from Chinese automakers. These new models span various segments and offer a diverse range of engine options.
Here’s a look at some of the conventional and hybrid vehicles expected to launch in the country before the year’s end. Some of these have been long-awaited, with information leaking early but no official release until now.
Haval Jolion
Since the second quarter, Haval’s dealer in Ho Chi Minh City has been teasing the upcoming launch of the Jolion. However, the H9 remains the brand’s sole offering in Vietnam so far.
The Haval Jolion HEV boasts impressive dimensions: 4,472 mm in length, 1,841 mm in width, 1,574 mm in height, and a wheelbase of 2,700 mm.

According to the brand’s consultants, the Jolion will be imported from Thailand and offer two engine options: a gasoline engine and a hybrid powertrain. Both configurations are expected to mirror those available in the Philippines and Thailand.
In Thailand, the Jolion is equipped with a 1.5L turbocharged four-cylinder engine that delivers 141 horsepower and 220 Nm of torque. It is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Omoda C5
Another SUV that has been generating buzz is the Omoda C5, a compact SUV. While the brand has been hosting test drives and introductory events since the beginning of the month, specific launch details are still scarce.
It wasn’t until the Vietnam Motor Show 2024 that pre-orders for the C5 commenced. This SUV has dimensions of 4,400 mm in length, 1,830 mm in width, 1,585 mm in height, and a wheelbase of 2,630 mm.

The PHEV option, introduced later, combines a 1.5L TGDi engine with a front electric motor, resulting in a combined output of 347 horsepower and 525 Nm of torque. According to the manufacturer, this PHEV variant offers a combined range of up to 1,200 km on a single fuel fill-up.
Upon its arrival in Vietnam, the J7 will face intense competition in the compact SUV segment from established players such as the Honda HR-V (priced between 699 and 871 million VND), Kia Seltos (599-799 million VND), Mitsubishi Xforce (599-680 million VND), Hyundai Creta (599-699 million VND), Toyota Yaris Cross (650-765 million VND), Toyota Corolla Cross 2024 (820-905 million VND), and the Mazda CX-3 (529-654 million VND).
MG G50
MG introduced its new MPV, the G50, at the Vietnam Auto Show, but pricing details are yet to be announced. Positioned in the MPV segment, the G50 is expected to rival the Toyota Innova Cross and the GAC M6.
The MG G50 has dimensions of 4,825 mm in length, 1,825 mm in width, and 1,800 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,800 mm. Compared to its competitors, the Toyota Innova Cross (4,755 x 1,845 x 1,790 mm) and the BYD M6 (4,710 x 1,810 x 1,690 mm), the G50 is slightly longer but not by a significant margin.
