Chinese automaker Nio has recently faced allegations of fraud in a comparative test video showcasing its ET9 model’s Skyride intelligent chassis system against the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class.
Specifically, in the shared video, both the ET9 and Mercedes-Maybach S-Class were driven over speed bumps at the same speed, with a wooden tower placed on the rear seat table of each car. However, only the tower in the Maybach toppled, while the one in the Nio ET9 remained intact.
The external camera footage showed the Maybach’s body shaking significantly when going over the speed bump, while the Nio ET9 glided through more smoothly and stably.
Many have speculated that Nio manipulated the distance between the speed bumps to favor the ET9’s wheelbase during the test.
In response to the controversy, Nio’s CEO, William Li, refuted the allegations. He clarified that half of the speed bumps were set according to the ET9’s wheelbase, while the other half followed the Maybach S-Class’s wheelbase. The Chinese automaker also challenged the accusers to conduct their own tests if they doubted the authenticity of Nio’s trials.
The Nio ET9 is built on the Skyride intelligent chassis system, which actively adjusts 1,000 torsion forces per second and independently controls all four wheels, ensuring stability on various terrains. This is the first Nio model to feature this technology.
The ET9 is powered by two electric motors, producing a combined output of 697 horsepower and 700Nm of torque. The electric motors, coupled with all-wheel drive, enable the car to accelerate from 0-100km/h in just 4.3 seconds.
The Nio ET9 was unveiled on December 21 and is expected to go on sale in March 2025, with a starting price of 660,000 Chinese yuan (approximately 2.3 billion VND) excluding the battery. The price including the battery is 788,000 Chinese yuan (around 2.75 billion VND).
What Car Does the New Manchester United Manager Drive?
The new Manchester United manager is a man of humility, and this is reflected not only in his management style but also in his choice of car. Unlike many Premier League managers who drive flashy, high-end cars, he prefers to keep it modest and is often seen driving a modest vehicle. This choice of car is a reflection of his down-to-earth personality and his focus on substance over style. It is a refreshing change and a reminder that success in football is not always defined by extravagance.
The $120,000 Nio ET9 is Still a “Hot Seller”, Rivaling the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class
Nio’s remarkable feat of selling all 999 ET9 First Edition models within hours of its launch underscores the immense appeal of electric vehicles to Chinese consumers. This achievement highlights a significant shift in the automotive industry, with electric cars gaining traction and captivating the hearts of drivers in the world’s largest car market.
