In a recent diplomatic event, the Chief Trade Representative of Russia in Vietnam announced the launch plan for a range of models from the AvtoVAZ Automobile Group in the Vietnamese market.
The AvtoVAZ Group is one of the leading car manufacturers in Russia. Accordingly, AvtoVAZ has sent nine models to Vietnam to undergo inspection and licensing procedures in preparation for export to the Vietnamese market.
AvtoVAZ’s subsidiary brand is Lada, which was previously sold in Vietnam in the 1970s with sedan and SUV variants of the Niva. Today, the compact SUV Lada Niva remains AvtoVAZ’s flagship product. The car achieved impressive sales figures when sold in the US and West Asian markets.
Speculations suggest that the newest Niva model, launched this year, could be among the nine models soon to be available for sale in Vietnam.
In addition to traditional models, AvtoVAZ is also committed to green vehicles, which are currently in trend. Last September, the Russian automaker launched its first electric car, the Lada e-Largus, and started taking early orders. This model is expected to be a strategic product, contributing to the expansion of the company’s portfolio and increasing its competitiveness.
The Lada e-Largus will be available in two versions: passenger and commercial, with different battery options and payloads. The passenger version will offer a range of up to 420 kilometers, while the commercial version will have a range of approximately 320 kilometers.
In Russia, the standard version of the Lada e-Largus is priced at 2.99 million rubles (approximately 722 million VND) thanks to government subsidies for electric vehicle purchases. Without the subsidy, the price increases by about 1 million rubles (240.76 million VND).
AvtoVAZ’s return to Vietnam will not only diversify the range of automobiles sold domestically, enhancing competition among brands, but it also opens up opportunities for deeper collaboration in economics and technology between Russia and Vietnam.
If AvtoVAZ can offer reasonable prices, quality, and designs that cater to Vietnamese tastes, their vehicles could become formidable competitors in the affordable and electric car segments in Vietnam.
