In 2024, hundreds of thousands of cars of various models were sold in the Vietnamese market. However, more than 73,000 cars had to be recalled due to defects that could compromise the safety of their users.
Notably, the largest recalls came from Toyota and Honda, which are quite popular car brands in Vietnam.
According to statistics, in 2024, car manufacturers conducted a total of 33 recall campaigns in Vietnam, affecting 73,082 vehicles.
Compared to 2023, there were fewer recall campaigns this year, but the number of recalled vehicles was higher. In 2023, there were 39 recall campaigns involving 53,324 vehicles.
The data shows that most of the recalled vehicles had loose bolt fastening issues, posing potential risks. For instance, Toyota recalled 25,971 units of the Veloz Cross, Avanza Premio, and Yaris Cross due to missing welds on the floor. Similarly, VinFast recalled approximately 2,097 electric vehicles from its VF e34, VF 5 Plus, VF 6 Plus, VF 8, and VF 9 models to address potential looseness in the bolts securing the high-voltage battery’s upper shell.
Other recalls were due to fuel pump issues, such as Honda’s recall of 14,230 Jazz, Civic, CR-V, Accord, and City vehicles, and 11,005 CR-V and Civic cars due to steering shaft defects.
