According to data from market research firm Rho Motion, global sales of electric and hybrid vehicles reached 1.83 million units in November 2024, marking a 32% increase from the same period last year.
This also marks the seventh consecutive month of growth in electric vehicle sales and the third consecutive record-breaking month, showcasing the market’s robust development.
Rho Motion estimates that approximately 15.2 million electric vehicles were sold worldwide in 2024. The International Energy Agency (IEA) also forecasts that electric vehicle sales will account for 20% of global car sales.
In Mexico, electric vehicle sales have surged to five times the volume of last year. The UK also witnessed a 17% increase in sales of green cars compared to 2023. However, France and Germany experienced a slight dip in electric car sales during this period.
The Turkish electric vehicle market expanded by nearly 50% in 2024, attributed to Tesla’s entry into the market, along with the efforts of domestic electric car manufacturers.
Norway has consistently maintained its leading position in electric vehicle market share, with 90% of new cars being electric over the past few years.
According to statistics, the best-selling electric vehicle model globally in 2024 was the Tesla Model Y, closely followed by the Tesla Model 3.
As of October 2024, Tesla’s market share in the US stood at an impressive 49%. However, in the coming years, Tesla’s dominance may face challenges as more established automakers enter the electric vehicle market with a diverse range of products across different segments.
