According to Carscoops, BYD’s sales in 2024 reached 4.27 million vehicles, representing a 41.3% growth from 3 million in 2023.
The Chinese automotive giant sold 1,764,992 pure electric vehicles in 2024, a 12% increase from the previous year. BYD’s sales of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) also surged by 72.8%, with 2,485,378 units sold compared to 1.4 million in 2023.
In December 2024, BYD set a new record with 509,440 vehicles sold. Tesla is yet to announce its 2024 sales figures, but they are expected to be around 1.81 million, maintaining its lead in electric vehicle sales.
In terms of overall sales, BYD is projected to surpass Ford and Honda, securing a spot among the top global automakers.
Bloomberg reports that the Chinese market accounts for a significant portion of BYD’s sales. In contrast, the company sold approximately 500,000 vehicles in overseas markets.
BYD is also the second-largest battery supplier in China, counting Tesla, Nio, and Toyota among its clients. In 2024, the company set a record capacity of 194.7 GWh, a 29% increase, for both electric vehicle batteries and fixed energy storage systems.
