The new Decree 168/2024 on administrative sanctions for violations of road traffic order and safety officially took effect on January 1, 2025. This decree amends and supplements several articles of Decree 100/2020 and Decree 123/2021.

According to the new regulations in Decree 168, the fines for some traffic violations have increased significantly. The duration of driver’s license suspension for certain offenses can now range from 22 to 24 months.

Most of the offenses that result in a 2-year driving ban are related to drunk driving, drug use, street racing, or reckless driving. In addition to the ban, offenders may also face monetary fines, license point deductions, or vehicle confiscation, depending on the severity of the violation.

The following are some of the violations that will result in a 22-24 month driver’s license suspension, as stipulated in Decree 168.

Once a driver’s license is suspended, the offender is prohibited from driving for the specified period. Any violation of this ban will result in additional fines: 2-4 million VND for motorcycles under 125cc, 6-8 million VND for motorcycles over 125cc, and 18-20 million VND for cars.
