According to Motor1, Ford is gearing up to introduce a Super Duty version of its mid-size Ford Ranger pickup, increasing its towing capacity from 3.4 tons to nearly 4.5 tons. However, as the US already has the F-150, it won’t be a target market for this new Super Duty variant.
The Ford Ranger Super Duty is expected to launch in Australia in 2026. Ford confirmed this information through an introductory video, which showcases a combination of the standard Ford Ranger and the Raptor variant in its front-end design.
Per Motor1, the Super Duty version might stand taller than the regular Ford Ranger. The suspension system is also expected to be upgraded to accommodate the increased load.
As indicated in the video, the Ford Ranger Super Duty will have a maximum towing capacity of 4.5 tons, which is just over 1.1 tons more than the current lineup. The Super Duty’s own payload capacity is 4.5 tons, and when including cargo, the gross vehicle weight rating increases to 8 tons, a significant boost of 2.29 tons over the standard Ranger 4×4.

In addition to suspension upgrades, the Super Duty variant of the Ford Ranger will feature a longer bed, resulting in a slightly longer wheelbase than the standard model. According to Motor1, the increased cargo capacity suggests that the Ford Ranger Super Duty is likely to be equipped with a diesel engine.
Currently, the Ford Ranger lineup in Australia offers multiple diesel engine options. It remains unclear whether Ford will introduce a more powerful diesel engine option to cater to the increased payload capacity.
In the US, Ford’s F-Series pickup trucks are among the best-selling vehicles. Besides the F-150, which has similar specifications to the Ranger Super Duty, American customers also have other Super Duty options, including the F-250 and F-350. According to Motor1, a compact yet powerful Ranger Super Duty wouldn’t find its niche in the US market.
The Super Duty version of the mid-size Ford Ranger is slated to enter production in 2026. Pricing details have not yet been disclosed.
