Denza was initially established as a 50-50 joint venture between Mercedes-Benz and BYD. Last year, the Chinese automaker acquired 100% ownership of the brand. The current domestic lineup of Denza comprises four models: the N7 fastback SUV, the D9 minivan, the Z9 GT shooting brake, and the Z9 sedan. Soon, the Denza N9 SUV will be joining the ranks. However, the brand’s overseas lineup will be different.

The BYD Fang Cheng Bao Bao 5 is likely to be sold in Vietnam as the Denza B5

BYD also operates a premium brand specializing in off-road vehicles, Fang Cheng Bao (FCB). Their lineup includes two off-road SUVs named the Bao 5 and Bao 8.

They are also known as the Leopard 5 and Leopard 8. BYD aims to sell FCB-branded vehicles as part of the Denza brand overseas. The company has employed this strategy to transform Denza into a robust global brand with a diverse range of vehicles.

Hence, the BYD-backed Fang Cheng Bao Bao 5 off-road PHEV crossover will be sold overseas under the name Denza B5. This vehicle has been spotted in Australia during its road testing phase.

The B5 will also penetrate European markets, such as the United Kingdom. It will become a part of BYD’s premium Denza brand.

Previously, there were indications that the FCB Bao 5 would be sold under the Denza brand in the UK. Now, the vehicle has been spotted in Australia during road tests, revealing its international name.

The test mule of the BYD FCB Bao 5 has been spotted in Australia during road trials. It was heavily camouflaged. However, this model can be easily identified by its shape, swiveling rear doors, and vertical taillights. The vehicle was spotted with the registration plate NSW FHZ54S.

CarNewsChina examined the registration details of this vehicle. According to Australian authorities, this spotted vehicle is referred to as the Denza B5. The ‘B’ in its name likely stands for ‘Bao,’ which translates to ‘Leopard’ in Chinese.

We can assume that the FCB Bao 5 will be named the Denza B5 in overseas markets. It will be the first vehicle in Denza’s B-lineup. Subsequently, the Denza range could be expanded with the B8 crossover, known as the FCB Bao 8 in China.

The Denza B5 is an off-road SUV built on BYD’s DMO platform. It boasts dimensions of 4890/1970/1920 mm with a 2800 mm wheelbase. The B5 has a ground clearance of 220 mm, which can be increased to 310 mm thanks to its adjustable Disus-P suspension. The interior of the Denza B5 is similar to that of the BYD Shark 6 pickup truck.

The Denza B5 is a 4WD PHEV crossover powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine producing 135 kW (181 hp) combined with two electric motors generating 485 kW (650 hp).

The total system output is 505 kW (677 hp), and the peak torque is 760 Nm. As a result, the Denza B5 can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds. Thanks to its 31.8 kWh LFP battery and 85-liter fuel tank, this off-roader has a combined range of 1,200 km under the CLTC standard.

The pricing of the Denza B5 for overseas markets has not been disclosed yet. In China, this vehicle is priced at 239,800–302,800 Chinese yuan (32,750–41,350 USD).
