In 2024, Great Wall Motor (GWM) sold 29,218 units in Brazil, a remarkable 154% year-on-year growth compared to the 11,479 units sold in 2023. This success is largely attributed to the popularity of the Haval H6 and Ora 03 models.

Haval H6’s Surprising Sales Performance in Brazil Contrasts with Its Struggles in Vietnam

While the Haval H6 has faced challenges in Vietnam over the past two years, it has been a different story in Brazil. The PHEV and HEV versions of the H6 have been incredibly successful, being dubbed “golden geese” for the company. Both variants swept up awards, claiming the titles of “Best Hybrid Vehicle of 2024” and “Lowest Cost Hybrid Vehicle” in Brazil.

In total, GWM Brazil garnered 23 awards in 2024, with the Haval H6 alone accounting for 12 of those accolades. This makes the H6 the most awarded hybrid vehicle in Brazil for that year.

To put things into perspective, GWM sold 453,100 units internationally in the previous year, marking a 43.4% year-on-year increase. This contributed to 46.7% of their annual sales of 1.2333 million units, a figure that rose by 0.21% compared to the previous year. Notably, sales of new energy vehicles (NEVs) reached 322,000 units, reflecting a 22.82% year-on-year increase.

Additionally, vehicle registrations (including cars, light commercial vehicles, trucks, and buses) in Brazil totaled 2.63 million in 2024, a 14.1% increase compared to the previous year. This is the highest number since 2014, according to data from Brazil’s National Motor Vehicle Registry (Renavam). Leasing companies continue to dominate the market, purchasing a total of 650,000 vehicles last year. BYD and GWM collectively registered around 100,000 vehicles.

The director of GWM Brazil highlighted their expanded sales network, comprising 79 dealerships and 21 shopping mall stores. Looking ahead to 2025, the company plans to commence production and launch new models at the Iracemápolis plant, which will be GWM’s fourth-largest production base. This strategic move aims to cater to the growing demand for NEVs in the Brazilian market.

As early as 2022, GWM had already begun shaping Brazil’s NEV market and unveiled its core market strategy for the country: investing over 10 billion Brazilian Reais (approximately $1.6 billion) in the next decade with a focus on electrification and intelligence.
