The Great Wall Motor (GWM) Haval H7 is set to launch in the South African market on January 15, gradually expanding to other international markets thereafter. This vehicle is a rebadged version of the second-generation Haval Big Dog sold in China, tailored for overseas markets.

In the Chinese domestic market, the second-generation Haval Big Dog petrol version is priced at 135,800 – 156,800 Chinese yuan (18,500 – 21,400 USD), while the PHEV version starts at 162,800 – 179,800 yuan (22,200 – 24,500 USD).

The Haval H7’s exterior largely resembles its domestic counterpart. The front features round headlights and a polygonal grille adorned with matrix-point chrome decorations and a centered “HAVAL” logo.

The vehicle rides on multi-spoke wheels with integrated rivet details in the wheel arches. The roof design also includes a luggage rack.

While specific dimensions for the Haval H7 have not yet been disclosed, for reference, the Haval Second-Generation Big Dog measures 4,705/1,908/1,780 mm in length, width, and height, respectively, with a wheelbase of 2,810 mm.

In terms of performance, the Haval H7 is expected to be equipped with a 1.5T or 2.0T petrol engine and a 1.5T plug-in hybrid system. However, detailed power output figures have not been officially announced thus far.

For context, the domestic PHEV variant is powered by GWM’s Hi4 plug-in hybrid system, comprising a 1.5T engine and dual electric motors, mated to a 2-speed DHT gearbox. The 1.5T engine produces either 123 kW/243 Nm or 113 kW/233 Nm, depending on the trim. The electric motors deliver 130 kW/300 Nm or 220 kW/510 Nm.

The petrol-powered version available in China is equipped with either a 1.5T engine generating 135 kW/275 Nm or a 2.0T engine producing 175 kW/385 Nm, paired with a 7DCT or 9DCT transmission.
