On January 7, 2025, VinFast Manufacturing and Trading Joint Stock Company announced a voluntary recall program for its VF8 electric vehicle line. A total of 15,896 VinFast VF8 vehicles in the Vietnamese market will be affected by this recall. These vehicles were manufactured between August 2022 and December 2024.
According to VinFast, during a side-impact crash test in the United States, the company discovered that the center airbag (on the right side of the driver’s seat) exploded and made contact with the right hand of the dummy in the driver’s seat. VinFast conducted further investigations and confirmed that this phenomenon occurred in less than 10% of the test runs. In reality, VinFast has not recorded any such instances in the global market.
Nearly 16,000 VinFast VF8 electric vehicles are being recalled to inspect the airbags.
The center airbag in the VinFast VF8 is supplied by a manufacturer in South Korea and meets the legal requirements of all countries where VinFast operates, including the US, EU, Canada, Gulf countries, and Vietnam. The VF8 has also passed all market tests and received a 5-star safety rating from ASEAN NCAP.
However, to further enhance product quality and ensure customer safety, VinFast notified the Vietnam Registry and was approved to implement a voluntary and proactive recall program. This program offers a free upgrade of the center airbag for affected VF8 vehicles.
VinFast will contact customers to inform them about the program. The estimated time for replacing the center airbag in each vehicle is approximately 45 minutes.
The recall program for the VF8 to upgrade the center airbag will be carried out by VinFast from April 21, 2025, to April 20, 2027. Customers can bring their vehicles to authorized VinFast showrooms, dealerships, and service centers nationwide for free service.
This is the third recall for the VinFast VF8 line since its launch in Vietnam in early 2022. The first recall for this model was announced in February 2023 due to a brake system fault, affecting 2,781 vehicles. In March 2023, an additional 6,032 VF8 units were recalled for a similar issue.
The VinFast VF8 in Vietnam is currently available in two versions: standard and Plus. The standard version costs VND 1.17 billion if the battery is leased and VND 1.38 billion if the battery is purchased. The corresponding figures for the Plus version are VND 1.359 billion and VND 1.569 billion, respectively.
The Car Chassis – A Passenger’s Protective “Armor”
Beneath the shiny exterior of every car lies the unsung hero – the chassis. Often referred to as the “backbone” of a vehicle, the chassis plays a pivotal role in ensuring safety, performance, and longevity. A well-built chassis not only provides a smooth and stable ride but also acts as a protective shield for passengers in the event of a collision. It is the foundation upon which the vehicle’s integrity and reliability are built, contributing to a more secure driving experience.
