Mazda has recently unveiled its all-electric, rear-wheel-drive offering, the 6e. This model is expected to replace the Mazda6 in the future.
The Mazda 6e is the European version of the Mazda EZ-6, which was launched in China through the Beijing Auto Show in 2024. Mazda describes this version as almost identical to the EZ-6 but “designed to achieve driving performance and functionality that meets the needs of European customers.”
The Mazda 6e is the result of a collaboration between the Japanese car brand and Changan Automobile. The model retains Mazda’s signature design language, Kodo Soul of Motion. Like other Mazda models, the 6e boasts a sleek and elegant design with a modern touch. The front of the car features a distinctive grille surrounded by LED lights that flash to indicate the battery status during charging.
The 6e’s low-slung hood and roofline, frameless doors, and active rear spoiler enhance its sporty and dynamic appearance.
The cabin offers a modern and comfortable interior with a focus on technology. It features a prominent 14.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster. Other notable features include 64-color LED ambient lighting, a 14-speaker Sony sound system, and gravity-reducing front seats.
Mazda offers two battery options for the 6e: the smallest with a 68.8 kWh capacity, delivering a range of up to 483 km, and the larger 80 kWh battery that provides a range of up to 555 km.
The former can be charged from 10-80% in just 22 minutes using a 200 kW charger, giving it a 233 km range in just 15 minutes. The larger battery takes 45 minutes to charge from 10-80%.
The 68.8 kWh battery produces 258 horsepower, enabling the car to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 7.6 seconds. The larger battery generates 244 horsepower, resulting in a slightly slower 0-100 km/h time of 7.8 seconds. The rear-wheel drive promises an exciting driving experience.
The Mazda 6e is scheduled for release in Europe in the second half of 2025 and will go on sale in the UK in early 2026.
