On January 13, 2025, it was reported that Huawei had deployed the world’s first commercial trial of an automated parking system at an airport. This system is operational at Shenzhen’s Bao’an International Airport.

It utilizes Huawei’s Qiankun ADS 3.0 autonomous parking system. When drivers arrive at the airport’s autonomous parking pilot area, they can exit their vehicles and use a mobile app to select a parking spot. The car can then initiate an unmanned valet parking service while the passengers proceed to the airport.

Using the VPD system, the car autonomously navigates to the chosen parking spot. It will intelligently yield to pedestrians and traffic along the way. Additionally, it will project an automatic parking pattern on the ground if the car is equipped with pixel headlights to alert nearby traffic.

If the target space is occupied, the car will automatically select an empty one and turn off the engine after parking. The car owner can override the car’s parking choice if it has parked in an inconvenient location. When the owner returns to the airport, the car can be summoned by clicking a button on the app. It will then drive to the pickup area in the parking lot to meet the owner.

It is unclear whether this feature is available to all car owners equipped with Qiankun ADS 3.0 or if it is solely in the company’s testing phase. In December last year, Huawei released ADS 3.2, an upgrade that enhances the VPD parking feature. This feature supports autonomous parking and vehicle retrieval by allowing car owners to set a pickup point. While currently in beta, it indicates that the Shenzhen Airport capability is available to car owners with the Huawei system.
