The all-new Mazda CX-5 is expected to debut later this year.
Recently, a prototype of the 2026 Mazda CX-5 was spotted testing on the streets of California, home to Mazda’s North American headquarters.
From the images, it appears that the new Mazda CX-5 retains the styling of the current model. However, the body has been stretched, adopting a rear design similar to that of the CX-90 and Mazda 3 hatchback. As a result, the length of the CX-5 is rumored to increase by 110mm compared to the current model, reaching 4,685mm. This would make it one of the largest CUVs in its class, rivaling the likes of the Mitsubishi Outlander and Nissan X-Trail in terms of size.
Moreover, the front grille appears to be slightly smaller than that of its predecessor, resembling the design of the CX-50. While the design changes are not revolutionary, the next-generation CX-5 is expected to be an all-new model, built on the same Small Platform as the current Mazda 3, CX-30, and CX-50.
Last May, Mazda confirmed that this model will introduce a hybrid system, utilizing the company’s self-developed technology rather than the Toyota RAV4-derived hybrid in the CX-50. Notably, the name will remain as CX-5 instead of switching to CX-40 or another moniker.
According to members of the CX-5 forum in Germany, the new CX-5 is expected to launch in Europe between September and November 2025, offering mild-hybrid, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid options.
