The BYD Han L sedan is making headlines with its impressive super-fast charging capabilities thanks to its 945 V architecture. It can charge from 16% to 100% in just 24 minutes at a freezing temperature of -30 °C. Charging from 16% to 80% takes a mere 10 minutes, while going from 80% to a full charge takes an additional 14 minutes, even in such extreme cold conditions. Even at a frigid -30°C, the vehicle can be charged using a 120 kW charger.
BYD Han L to Feature Dual Charging, Taking Just 24 Minutes to Go from 16% to 100%
One of the most intriguing revelations is that the BYD Han L will support dual charging, meaning you can plug in two charging guns simultaneously. This technology is not new to BYD, as it was previously featured on the Denza D9 and Denza N7. Beyond the charging specifications, more information has been unveiled about the rear-mounted 580 kW engine.
The 580 kW engine has a maximum speed of 30,500 rpm, a rated power of 300 kW, and a rated torque of 225 Nm. In comparison, Xiaomi’s HyperEngine V8 operates at 27,200 rpm. The Han L, equipped with dual 810 kW engines, accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in a breathtaking 2.7 seconds.
According to certifications and information from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the Han L AWD boasts a staggering 810 kW (1,085 horsepower) thanks to its dual motors, with maximum outputs of 580 kW and 230 kW respectively.
BYD officially launched the Han L sedan and its sister SUV, the Tang L, on January 17. Both vehicles share the same powertrain. While prices have not been disclosed, BYD hinted that they would be around RMB 300,000 (USD 41,000). The official launch is expected to take place after the Chinese New Year in March.
The BYD Han L offers two powertrain options: one that is fully electric and a plug-in hybrid called the Han L EV and Han L PHEV, respectively. The Han L EV is anticipated to feature BYD’s Blade 2.0 batteries and will be available in two versions: RWD with a 500 kW electric motor and AWD with the same 500 kW motor paired with an additional 230 kW front motor, resulting in a combined output of 810 kW.
The Han L PHEV incorporates BYD’s fifth-generation PHEV system, known as DM 5.0, and offers two variants: DM-i and DM-p. These models are equipped with a 200 kW electric motor and a 1.5T ICE engine with an output of 115 kW. The DM-p is an AWD model that includes an additional 200 kW electric motor.
