Last night, on the 21st of January 2025, car enthusiasts in Ho Chi Minh City were treated to a rare sighting of the million-dollar supercar, the Porsche 918 Spyder. After nearly two years of absence, the hypercar was driven by its owner through the city streets just days before the Lunar New Year.
This is one of the two Porsche 918 Spyders currently in Vietnam. The car sports a gray exterior and is registered with a Cambodian license plate. The other, a white model, was imported by Phan Cong Khanh and bears a diplomatic license plate. It’s unlikely to be seen on public roads for several years unless it’s registered with a local license plate.
The Porsche 918 Spyder is an exclusive supercar, with only 918 units produced globally. Each car is individually numbered, and prices vary depending on the configuration, starting at $845,000. However, just months after its introduction, the Porsche 918 Spyder’s price surged past the $1 million mark.
The Porsche 918 Spyder featured in this article is painted in gray and features a carbon fiber targa top that can be removed and stored in the front trunk of the car.
Despite being a decade old, the 918 Spyder remains Porsche’s most powerful car. It’s equipped with a plug-in hybrid powertrain that combines a naturally aspirated 4.6-liter V8 engine with two electric motors, producing a total output of 881 horsepower and 1,280 Nm of torque.
This hybrid supercar can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.8 seconds and has a top speed of 345 km/h. The 6.8 kWh lithium-ion battery pack allows the Porsche 918 Spyder to travel up to 19 kilometers on electric power alone.
