Porsche gave us a first glimpse of what a 718 electric vehicle could look like with the Mission R concept in 2021, a racing car that hinted at the next-generation Cayman. But in the three years since, the only 718 EV prototypes spotted testing have been Boxster convertibles. Today, we finally get a glimpse of its coupe sibling.

These images show that the Cayman EV retains a very similar shape to the current 982 ICE model that’s been around since 2016. A large hatch runs from the roof to the top of an active spoiler that’s tucked away here but will extend out of the body when accelerating.

The third brake light runs vertically above the hatch and is reminiscent of the 911’s design. The front end of this black two-seater looks almost identical to the nose of the many Boxsters we’ve seen since 2022.

The horizontal bars on either side of the bumper are fake, meant to distract from the verticals mounted behind them. They look very similar to the active aero elements fitted to the new 911 GTS Hybrid.

Porsche will offer the Boxster and Cayman EVs in single- and dual-motor configurations and had planned to unveil them this year, with sales starting in 2026.

However, recent reports suggest that the automaker is struggling to get the dynamics of the new EVs to match the handling of the ICE models, which could indicate potential delays.
