On January 30, 2025 (the second day of the Lunar New Year), a notable incident occurred in Tu Zhong County, Nei Jiang City, Sichuan Province, China, and was captured by surveillance cameras.

At that time, a boy of about 10 years old was walking in a parking lot. He then lit a firecracker and threw it into a drain in the parking lot before running away. Soon after, the firecracker caused a methane explosion that damaged several parked cars.

The blast was so powerful that it flipped over a nearby luxury Lincoln car. Two other high-end vehicles, an Audi A8 and a Lexus ES, were also damaged. The Lexus ES sustained damage to its side door and rear windshield. According to eyewitnesses, a few other cars parked nearby also suffered scratches.

The explosion left a large hole in the ground. Local media reported that the incident caused significant material damage. As most of the damaged cars were luxury vehicles, the repair costs are expected to be substantial, possibly amounting to hundreds of thousands of yuan. Additionally, the parking lot surface and underground pipes were also damaged. Netizens estimated the total loss to be around 1 million yuan (approximately 3.5 billion VND).

Upon receiving the report, the authorities of Tu Zhong County promptly arrived at the scene. They also located the boy who lit the firecracker and took him to their headquarters.

It is known that during the Lunar New Year holiday in China, such explosions caused by children throwing firecrackers into drains are not uncommon. Earlier, on January 27, a girl in Da Zu, Chongqing, threw a firecracker into a drain and was thrown into the air. She was hospitalized but fortunately, her life was not in danger. On January 21, a boy in Wanzhou District, Chongqing, also threw a firecracker into a drain, causing several manhole covers to be blown into the air. The boy sustained a head injury in the incident.
