The Chinese automotive manufacturer, BYD, has filed for industrial design protection for an entirely new automobile model, the Denza N9, in the January 2025 issue of the Industrial Property Official Gazette of the National Office of Intellectual Property of Vietnam (NOIP). Interestingly, the BYD Denza N9 is not yet available for purchase in the Chinese domestic market.
The large-sized electric SUV BYD Denza N9 has had its industrial design registered for protection in Vietnam, even before its release in the Chinese market.
BYD’s application for industrial design protection indicates that the Denza N9 may be sold in the Vietnamese market in the future. Currently, the brand offers a total of six models in the country, including the Atto 3, Dolphin, Seal, Han, Tan EV, and M6. In the first half of this year, BYD will introduce another new model in Vietnam, the Sealion 6.
The BYD Denza N9 is a large SUV that made its debut at the Guangzhou Auto Show 2024, held in November of last year. According to BYD’s announcement, the vehicle will be officially launched in the Chinese market in March this year.

The BYD Denza N9 has dimensions of 5,258 x 2,030 x 1,830 mm (length x width x height) and a wheelbase of 3,125 mm. Similar to its sibling, the Denza Z9, this model is also developed based on BYD’s e3 platform. Therefore, it is expected that the N9 will share some of the unique technologies of the BYD Denza Z9, such as the ability to turn on the spot like a tank, move sideways like a crab, and feature a rear-wheel steering system.
On the exterior, the BYD Denza N9 sports a simple and boxy design, reminiscent of the VinFast VF9. It forgoes a traditional grille and instead features sleek headlights and a central air intake that can automatically open and close to optimize airflow. Complementing the design are large alloy wheels, hidden door handles, and slender taillights that extend into the rear hatch.

Following the tradition of Chinese automobiles, and BYD vehicles in particular, the Denza N9 boasts an array of screens inside the cabin, including a 13.2-inch digital instrument cluster, a 17.3-inch infotainment screen that can rotate 90 degrees, and an entertainment screen for front passengers. Additionally, there are two screens on the rear doors that display images from digital cameras, serving as a replacement for traditional side-view mirrors, and a 50-inch heads-up display (HUD) with augmented reality technology.

The BYD Denza N9 offers a 2+2+2 seating configuration, accommodating a total of six passengers. Each seat is electrically adjustable and comes with heating, cooling, and massage functions. The driver’s seat is designed to be gravity-neutral, and it includes a leg rest similar to the two rear business-class seats.

In the Chinese market, the BYD Denza N9 is available in both pure electric (EV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) versions. The PHEV variant is equipped with a 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine producing 203 horsepower. The front electric motor generates 268 horsepower, while each of the rear electric motors delivers 322 horsepower, resulting in a combined output of 911 horsepower for the three electric motors.
Additionally, the vehicle utilizes BYD’s proprietary lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) Blade batteries with a capacity of 47 kWh. This enables the PHEV version to travel over 200 kilometers without consuming any gasoline. The top speed of the vehicle is an impressive 230 km/h.
The EV version of the Denza N9 also features three electric motors arranged similarly to the PHEV variant, but with a combined output of 952 horsepower. The battery capacity and range of the EV model have not yet been disclosed.
The BYD Denza N9 is offered in both EV and PHEV variants to cater to diverse consumer preferences.
Lastly, the Denza N9 incorporates BYD’s advanced “God’s Eye” BAS 3.0+ active safety technology, which is available on the high-end versions equipped with LiDAR sensors on the roof.
According to a sales consultant at a dealership in China, the BYD Denza N9 has a starting price of 359,800 Chinese yuan (approximately 1.26 billion Vietnamese dong) for the base model, while the most expensive variant is expected to cost 450,000 Chinese yuan (approximately 1.57 billion Vietnamese dong).
Previously, the Denza N9 was also spotted undergoing testing in the United Kingdom. BYD has affirmed its intention to introduce this model to the European market. The N9 is likely to be the first vehicle from the BYD-owned Denza brand to be sold in Europe.
