The 10 slowest-selling car models in Vietnam for January 2025 (in units)
The Honda Civic Type R tops this list with a meager sale of just one unit. This is unsurprising given the Type R’s niche appeal and its premium price tag of 2.399 billion VND. Honda offers this high-performance model only through special orders.
The Honda Accord, another Honda model, takes second place. With only five units sold in January 2025, the Accord experienced a 58.3% decline in sales. Despite Honda offering cash incentives of up to 250 million VND for this D-segment sedan, its sales remained low.
The Honda Accord was also one of the slowest-selling models in Vietnam throughout 2024. Its high price of 1.319 billion VND, limited version options, dated design, and lack of recent upgrades have made it less appealing to buyers. The overall decline in the popularity of mid-size sedans in Vietnam has also contributed to the Accord’s poor sales performance.
In third place is the Toyota Corolla Altis, with a staggering 80.5% drop in sales to just seven units. This isn’t the first time this C-segment sedan has appeared in the bottom 10 selling models. Like its D-segment counterpart, the mid-size sedan category is losing its appeal as consumer preferences shift. The Toyota Corolla Altis is a prime example of this shift.
Ranking fourth is the Toyota Alphard, affectionately known as the “land jet,” with 14 units sold, a 51.7% decrease. Similar to the Honda Civic Type R, the Alphard caters to a specific clientele due to its high price tag of 4.37 billion VND. However, despite its significantly higher price, the Alphard sold twice as many units as its sibling model, the Corolla Altis.
The Toyota Corolla Altis trails behind the luxurious Alphard in sales.
Kia K5 ties with the Toyota Alphard, selling 14 units and experiencing a 33.3% decline compared to December 2024. It is the second mid-size sedan on this list, following the Honda Accord.
Next is the Suzuki Jimny, with only 16 units sold, a 63.6% decrease. Nicknamed the “mini Mercedes-Benz G-Class,” the Jimny has made a few appearances on the list of slowest-selling cars in the past. Its high starting price of 789 million VND, coupled with limited size, convenience, and safety features, have made it a challenging sell. Additionally, the Suzuki Jimny is imported from Japan in limited quantities.
The Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is the seventh model on the list, with a modest sale of 17 units, an 80% decline. This mid-size SUV has underperformed compared to its rival, the Isuzu mu-X. The discontinuation of promotional programs for the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport may have contributed to its lackluster sales.
Similarly, the Toyota Land Cruiser sold only 17 units, an 87.5% drop. This is understandable given its exclusivity and high price, starting at 4.286 billion VND.
Kia makes another appearance on the list with the Soluto, ranking ninth. With 18 units sold, the Soluto experienced a 63.2% decline. Unlike the Kia K5, the Soluto is a B-segment sedan, typically popular in Vietnam. However, its uninspiring design and features have made it less appealing, despite its competitive pricing starting at 386 million VND.
Rounding off the list is the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, with a 13.6% sales decrease to 19 units. Like its sibling models, the Land Cruiser and Land Cruiser Prado, this Toyota SUV is priced at a premium, starting from 3.46 to 3.48 billion VND. It is the fourth Toyota model in the bottom 10 selling cars, alongside the Corolla Altis, Alphard, and Land Cruiser.
